On tap at Bungalow, it poured a dark reddish amber black with a very minimal off-white head. The flavor was port like with a mild caramel sweetness. It had a great body and was smooth for 8% which wasnt so noticeable. Flavorwise it wasnt so complex possibly due to being served too cold or because my tastebuds were overloaded after a 9-course dinner! All in all a well done beer as I expect from Fujizakura.

On tap at Bungalow, Kyoto. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a small beige head and lacings. Sweet with lots of caramel. Also hints of roasted malts. Soft carbonation. Medium to full bodied.

On tap at Qbrick. Complex aroma: yeasty, funky, manure, and honey. Very dark Coca-Cola brown. Sweetish and smooth, with a mild aftertaste. Medium body, mild carbonation, very satisfying. Maybe really a weirded up doppelbock. Tasty stuff.

A rock solid doppel, losing a few points with a thinnish body of slight 1 - Dmensionality. Quite rich and traditional - toffee, chocolate powder and smores. Fairly straight forward and drinkable.

Dark brown color; medium sized head, with little retention. The aroma is mild, with Munich malt. Reasonable body strength; caramel and mildly roasted malts flavor, some chocolate in the finish; light oxidisation; correct bitterness. It has a good caramel and malt imprint. Not bad.

Pours a murky dark brown color with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt and fruits. Good flavor of slightly roasted malt and fruits. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Interesting.

[2221-20090605] Sample. Mild sweet malt aroma. Dark brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet grainy malt flavour, heavy and thick. Medium-full body. Nice, a bit boozy sweet but fair.

In short: A typical by-the-book sweet Doppelbock. Good brew even if unexceptional.
How: From the bottle at Montreal Mondial de la Bire 2009
The look: Dark brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: A whole lot of cereals swimming in sticky toffee. Toasted bread crust with caramel. A little roasted nuts notes and a slight earthy sensation. Sweetness level is somewhere between moderate and high, a little too sweet for me but that often happens with the style. Minimal hops presence. I like my doppelbocks a little less sweet but this is a standard representation of the style that will please all doppelbock fans. A good brew from the land of the rising sun, a few minutes a day, if you are looking in the right direction at the right time.

Mondial 2009. Dude pouring probably poured me 2/3 of the bottle for $4!! haha. Pours a slightly hazy woody brownish orange with a nice lasting big head. Aroma is nutty deep toasted malts, earth, light yeasty notes, ligth herbal hops, some paper and rope but good. Flavor is full big malts, munich, lots of toast, some earthy yeast, rope, light meatiness, and a warm bready biscuit-vienna malt character and a somewhat clean bittering finish. Smooth and pretty solid for a doppelbock.
