buzzoven (376) - JAPAN - MAR 26, 2009
On tap at Craft Beer Bar...colour was pitch black with a creamy off white head. When I saw other people drinking this at the bar, I thought they were drinking stouts! Slight smell of caramel, burnt sugars, some floral hints. Taste was smooth and creamy and the finish was out of this world; certainly highlighting all the right aspects of a spring bock beer and adding their own little crafty touches (some vanilla in the finish). Very enjoyable.

KyotoLefty (10263) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 10, 2008
On tap at Barley in Nishinomiya, March 2008. Rich and rather complex bock. Black, rather fragrant, with well-roasted malt similar to a stout. Rather sweet with caramel, raisins, and chocolate, but with coffee too. Nice, but more roasted than a bock really should be. Nice enough, though.

thebeertourist (5189) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 6, 2008
Draught at Bicke, Kichijoji, Tokyo. Almost black with a decent creamy tan head. Roasted molasses aroma. Rather sweet, but with some offsetting roast. Good, but the beer does not take off.

BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 6, 2007
Sampled @ GJBF Yokohama: Dark amber, nice tan head, nose of sweet plum and hop. Clean full sweet malts. Nice light alcohol, sweet tail. Nice.

Capa (3295) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - SEP 20, 2007
@ GJBF 2007. Enjoyable aroma of roasted sweet malts, some fruit, cocoa, and molasses. Flavor is a little more roasted than the aroma, nice molasses, cocoa, fairly malty, and raisins. Some alcohol in the finish. A very nice offering.

asheft (3082) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2007
[on tap in Tokyo somewhere] Rich malty aroma that is not melanoidiny or pumpernickely like other non-German bocks. Clear, tawny brown. The flavour captures the bock maltiness common in this style quite nicely, with very gently hops flavour and only a very slight bitterness. Delicate walnuty finish. Medium body with nice lacing and low carbonation.

presario (4916) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - APR 30, 2007
Sexy stubby pint bottle from TimE. Very big lasting dirty brown head, have to pause till it settles. Light lacing. Woody molasses aroma. Smokey sweet beer with a light molasses flavour.

3.5
larsga (7539) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 22, 2007
Medium light tan creamy head. Dark red barely translucent body. Light licorice aroma. Sweet taste of plum, prunes, and licorice. Dry throughout. Mild, yet the alcohol is noticeable. Dry licorice aftertaste. Very nice. (0.25l draft.)

TimE (5817) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 9, 2005
Man I was expecting Sakura in this beer, but lucky it is only a reference to the spring season when you can see sakura. Dark chestnut color, burnt raisins and dark fruit and a just a touch of alcohol in the nose. All the flavour in the beer just falls in your mouth to the bottom (very strange). Strong dark fruit, with chocolatey mouth. Dried apricot winey finish.
