Turbid dark amber pour with an off-white head. Super oxidized, but not awful. Sherry fruitiness, a hint of cardboard, some caramel malt sweetness, and a bit of brown sugar. The flavor is nearly cloying, but some nice qualities to it. Some caramel, brown sugar, toffee, dark fruit, and sherry. A light cardboard quality, but the other things cover it up. A hint of alcohol on the finish. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - FEB 21, 2011
Dark orange with a fizzy white head. Dark fruit and caramel aroma and taste with a strong white wine flavor dominating and a caramel and grape finish. imadeadguy (378) - back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA - JAN 24, 2009
On tap. 05 and 06 versions. Pour is a hazy redish/brown with small off white head. Aromas of sweet fruits, caramel, slight alcohol. Flavor is damn smooth with sweet malt, dark fruits, and caramel. The 05 was much more balanced than the 06. Probably the best BW i’ve had to date. They need to bottle this stuff! ApisAles (1575) - Greenbelt, Maryland, USA - JAN 14, 2009
On tap at the brew pub. Poured a beautiful deep ruby color with little to no head. Aroma was raisins and caramel with a lot of dark fruit characteristics. Some plum and candied aromas. Flavor was more of the same. Intense dark fruit flavors, lots of raisin, brown sugar, caramel. Alcohol was masked well. This was like candy in a glass. Very very tasty. ’05 version on tap. Poured hazy amber color with small bubbly off white head. Taste was carmel and alcohol. Not too strong, just right. Very smooth and refreshing. I can’t believe there is a beer this good only a couple miles away. Very highly recommended! One more thing.....Won Silver medal at the California State Fair.
