Bottle: Pours a dark mahogany color with thick head. The nose is sweet and fruity with a nice chewy crisp caramel note like the topping on a creme brulee. The flavor is well balanced and rounded, a bit thick and boozy, but it works well. Great drinkability for the ABV. Not as complex and fig or berryish as some of the higher end german examples but clean and well made. Nice. Reid (2673) - Salem, Oregon, USA - OCT 2, 2008
Clear, dark amber/brown in clour, small tan head..goes away fast but leaves copious lace.
Taste is the same as the aroma but quite sweet, but not cloying, a little bitterness near the end.
Mouthfeel is very nice ,luxurious, doesnt get at all watery.
I liked this ..im not a great fan of Dopplebocks, but this was good ( one bottle at a time only). SuzyGreenberg (1604) - Seattle, Washington, USA - OCT 2, 2008
22 oz. bottle - pours a clear golden brown with thick off-white head; nutty, musky aromas with lots of sweetness and brown sugar; drinks creamy with considerable body and flavor; rich and malty with touch of smoke; very nice and a beer i could drink a lot of beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - OCT 1, 2008
Darker amber in color with a smooth tan head. Toasty malts up front, fruity caramel flavors, faint chocolate. Hops are enough to balance, a bit earthy, but stays sweeter into the finish. jake65 (4033) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - OCT 1, 2008
Bottle: Pours an amber brown color with a modest sandy head. Faint aroma of malty sweetness with just a touch of hops. Tastes sweet with some raisons, malts, toffee, and some dry florals in the trailer. A fun session brew, but a bit uninspiring. I was hoping more a more flavorful offering.

Ruby with a nice white head. Aroma is malty with light toffee, dried fruit. Taste is a nice light toffee, light malt, faint chocolate. Mild but solid. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - SEP 30, 2008
Aroma is promising of dark and toasted malts, caramel, and some dark fruit as well. Pours an light auburn color with a small head. Flavors of toasted malt, chocolate, and some dark fruit, but something was off and chemically to me. Perhaps a bit to sulphuric or something, and that put me off. No one else felt that something was odd here but me, so I guess it was probably my palate that day. Also, I found it a little too warming for 8%. 19Ei8hty (1166) - Washington, USA - SEP 30, 2008
I am perpetually underwhelmed by just about every Full Sail offering as was prepared to be for this one, given its one of my favorite styles, but they put together a winner of a drink. Big toasted malt backbone with lots of peppery spice notes and small molasses hints. Smooth creamy mouthfeel and a nice spiced hop finish. Really welll constructed drink and the bottle art was wonderful. boFNjackson (4230) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 28, 2008
Poured deep amber with an off-white head. Aroma was spicy with some alcohol and malt. Big mouthfull that’s a little dry and foamy. Sweet caramel and smooth malt. Hops came in during the finish. Big flavors and drank easily. bradlyc77 (226) - Sebastopol, California, USA - SEP 28, 2008
Lighter body than expected given appearance/style. Dark caramel color and malty caramel flavor.
