Yet another winner from Full Sail. While some might think that the Black Ale style is an abomination, I do enjoy the uniqueness of the style and found this to be a easy beer to get into. An aroma of cheap chocolate chip cookies, spicy, herbal, with a faint note of roast. Appearance is probably it’s least appealing item, as it looked more like a brown ale than a black ale...but it was dark enough I guess. Flavor has that odd-ball roasted coffee with citrus note to it that I seem to enjoy. Some light spicy/yeast notes, kinda charcoal-like, but still having a light raisin quality. Very nice.
Bleh, this is not good. Pour a dark brown with khaki colored head and lacing. Tastes of cold coffee, nasty orange, faint chocolate, some weird earthy pepper-esque off-putting flavoring. Yuck. I typically like Black IPAs, but this is not one of them. slowrunner77 (12594) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 1, 2014
"looks more like a brown ale than a black, but that everlasting smooth head is nice. aroma weakish roasted malts and some citrus hops. fairly smooth, a little thin. the flavor was a surprise and won me over. great balance and a taste that just worked. light chocolate, roast and bittersweet citrus hops...just enough. December 27th, 2012 - Here’s a dark beer to keep frost bitten toes warm after a night trudging through snow and slush. A creamy, tan foam sits imperiously on top a deep black beer. A shred of light manages to pierce the brew near the bottom of the glass where the beer is thinner, dark and red-brown. Sweet and spicy is the scent, with tons of brown sugar, black pepper, Black Forest ham, and cooked pork. In other words, this smells like a delicious marinade. Fortunately, the taste is more beer-centric. Malty, dark, roasted, with lots of burnt malt in the flavor, and a touch of hops hanging airily in the background, offering some much needed bitterness. jkwalking05 (4743) - Arlington, Texas, USA - DEC 31, 2013
(Backlog) Brown in color and has a tannish colored head. The smell is hops, slight roast, chocolate, and ok. The taste is hops, roasty, malts, and chocolate. Ok.

A: Dark Opaque Color, Off White Head, Great Lacing
S: Cascade Hops, Coffee
T: Hoppy, Dark Malts, Coffee
M: Well Carbonated, Medium to Heavy Bodied, Bitter
Overall, a decent Black IPA but the coffee taste is a little too overpowering on the back end.

A - Pours dark brown with a small tan head.
S - Spearmint, rye bread, astringent mildewed pine, caramel malt underneath.
T - Follows the nose, solvent pine, rye seeds, dry spearmint, all above a thinly flavored charred malt.
M - Moderate carbonation, medium body.
This one’s hard to drink. The hops seemed off and the malt was watered down and wasn’t even trying. The only thing that kept me drinking was to find out what the weird off-putting flavors were. I love Full Sail but this is a whiffer.

Black with an off-white head. Aroma and flavor are full of roasted malt with a little chocolate, as well as some pine. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. tgncc (3140) - Bellmore, New York, USA - MAR 11, 2013
Roast, pine needles on the nose, a bit stale. (Full disclosure, I bought this several months after Christams on the half price rack). The appearance is deep black, off white head. The flavor is like the aroma, with the staleness. A bit of dark, unsweetened chocolate. The finish is roasty, pine, citrus, stale. Medium to medium/thick in body. OK. dbarnold (1127) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - JAN 21, 2013
Decent black IPA with good bitterness, just a little thin. Didn’t get everything that it needed to out of the malts and ended up a little watery compared to the best black IPAs. Still had good hop character and a clean finish. Decent beer, just not great. dfinney23 (3395) - Houston, Texas, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Dark and roasty + hop bite sounds promising but this one adds up to less than the sum of its parts. Dark brown with minimal head. Faint chocolate and citrus but that’s about it. Past its prime?
