The first beer in the Brewers Share Series is "Extra Special Barney" (ESB) and was developed by our lead brewer, Barney Brennan. According to Barney, his ESB was inspired by two things; a perfect beer moment and the aromatic highlight of the 2007 hop selection in Yakima, a US Challenger hop. As Barney puts it, "I was sitting on the deck at the brewery overlooking the river in the sunshine - drinking a perfectly balanced bitter - already looking forward to the second pint. It was one of those great beer moments. Hopefully, my ESB will make one of those moments for someone else with its five different specialty malts and this one very special hop. We made it entirely with US Challenger hops including a pound per barrel dry hop because we wanted to share the aromatic experience we had at the Hop Rub in Yakima with our customers."

Bomber bottle. The aroma smells like a great, full flavored beer should. You can almost taste the quality with your nose. A very hoppy smell, more like an ipa than anything else, but still very pure and inviting. This is a very good looking beer, complete with a nice, frothy head to keep in the wonderful aroma. The flavor just rolls across your tongue very nicely. I first got the fresh hop flavor without any bitterness at all. As the hop flavor subsided, it turned into the a really good esb bitter flavor. Very interesting and unique. The mouth feel was thick without being too heavy. Overall, this is a very good beer that I will definitely try again...and again.I have never tasted that pure hop flavor mixed with an esb. Very good cause I enjoy a good esb. You should really try to get some of this one.

Might be one of my favorite beers ever. Damn near perfectly balanced, great look, aroma, and most importantly taste. If they made this a year round beer my fridge would be stocked with it constantly.

Pours a very hazy, dark golden amber color with burnt orange edges and a half finger off-white head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind. Sweet, slightly earthy aroma with a strong malt character and a subtle crisp hop presence. Hints of bread/biscuit as well as some caramel and toffee countered by slightly grassy hops. As it warns, a subtle fruit character comes forward. Not bad smelling but kind of bland. Medium bodied and much more flavorful and interesting that the aroma suggests. Surprisingly hop forward providing a nice dry bitterness that counters the strong malt sweetness. Resinous with a grassy/piny flavor along with a slight citrus character. This is countered mid-palate by sweet malt with hints of caramel and toffee. As in the nose, the fruit notes become more apparent in the finish as it warms. Decently balanced and easy to drink with a slightly dry finish.

Poured a hazy slightly dark orange color with a medium-sized white head. Not much in the aroma, some hay and hops. Taste is pretty crisp with some slightly alcohol tasting notes. Some caramel with other malty flavors. Some light fruity notes. Aftertaste has some grainy flavors with some crisp dry hops with some hay. Overall pretty good!

The aroma is malty and a touch nutty with herbal hops and a tiny bit of fruit. The appearance is amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a bit of butterscotch. The palate is smooth. Overall a very good beer.
