I got this from South Bay D&L. Thanks Joey!
This pours a pitch black with a small maybe 1/2 inch head of foam that shrinks to just a ring around the glass.
The smell has a lot going on. Dark fruit, milk and dark chocolate, and definitely some oak influence. Pleasing nose to be sure.
The taste is quite layered. Notes of dark chocolate, burnt coffee, fig, toffee, and some citrus, along with some wood, right before and through the finish. Overall, quite a bitter RIS but it has enough sweetness to not let the bitter go overboard and...it, to me, is *very* drinkable. I don't notice the abv much at all. Oh, and I just noticed a wee bit of licorice but it's mildly done and I like it that way.
The body is medium, the carbonation is light. Nice tasty and very complex example of the style. This is something I'd get again and maybe cellar to see what happens though I think it's quite drinkable fresh. lightbias (455) - USA - SEP 11, 2014
From a 2014 bomber to a snifter, this poured black with a rich chocolate head, very minimal. The aroma is dark fruit and chocolate followed by a flavor of roasted malt and burnt caramel. Not a huge body, a fairly active carbonation. The finish is a bit bitter although not unpleasant. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 26, 2014
Very drinkable for being readily available. Chocolate and malty on the nose, following onto the palate. Finishes slightly sweet. Maltser85 (363) - Fargo, North Dakota, USA - DEC 24, 2013
In trade as extra from Ldhughes, thanks! Poured black with half finger tan head. Aroma of raisins, slight molasses and some milk-bitter chocolate. Taste is slightly bitter chocolate, espresso notes, some roast. Light metallic (oxidization) but not off putting. Medium body. As it warms, it gets more robust. Nice middle of the road RIS. dbhenry (139) - El Paso, Texas, USA - DEC 7, 2013
An Excellent stout, this very dark beer has distinct caramelized malt flavors that are more intense than the hops, although the hops come through well also. Small head, this is a very complex tasting malt.

2/22/2012. From bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Chocolate and licorice aromas with dark malt. A little sweetness from the oak, but the malt, hops and chocolate shows well. llcooldave (1226) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - SEP 1, 2013
Pours midnight black int he glass. Slight mocha and cocoa liqueur aroma. Dry upfront finishing with a coffee mocha aftertaste. Overall, tasty and drinkable. Considering the price ($4), its a tasty brew. Nate (4296) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 29, 2013
From 2010 bottle at Dog Days Tasting. Mild alcohol, coffee, chocolate, and tart light soy. Dark black opaque with foamy-creamy light tan head. Medium-heavy body with medium-light carbonation. Starts rich and sweet with chocolate and coffee, mild alcohol, and soy. Carbonic acidity. Light bitter finish with some bitter tang. Nutty sweet after with chalky coffee bitterness. Not one of my favorites, have not written it off just yet. I’ve given it the benefit of being first in line as well as last of a session and everything in between. Nothing seems to suit this beer, flavors seem to come on all at once leaving the senses overwhelmed. The finish and after-taste of the beer are amazing but the bitterness and alcohol flavor in mouth are not balanced enough with other flavors for me. Black color with fleeting tan head. Dark roast, dark chocolate, tobacco aromas. medium body, soft carbonation. Dark dry chocolate flavors with tobacco, ash, pale malts----good
