Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Deep ruby on the pour. Roasty nose with a little sweet chocolate. Smooth and full bodied. Good roast with an almost burnt finish. Some bitterness as well. TURDFERGUSON (4068) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 31, 2012
Bottle. You’re so forgettable. Completely forgettable. When I think back to this beer I had two days ago, my brain thinks of nothing cuz you are so....forgettable. And watery, and meh. beersearcher (2383) - Glendale, California, USA - OCT 30, 2012
Now this is a great burger beer. Full Sail knows how to do light and sessionable. This black hued beer has a thin head and loads of chocolate notes. Mostly light and milky. But the beer doesn’t taste thin and watery. Ernest (7819) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (cocoa powder, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Sigh. What a simple, uninviting aroma! Clunky cocoa powder is really about it, minor roast. Syrupy sweet in the mouth without much to balance. Black bock? Uh, sure, whatever. 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 29, 2012
bottle. cola brown with a small head, less than average retention. stewed caramel malt, solvent phenols and fusel alcohols in the nose with a sweet caramel syrup malt smell and touches of beach sand, sulfur and minerals. pasty and rough malt with distinct burnt grain harshness and a malt liquor petroleum / ethanol flavor. acidic and chalky and pasty and sourish cola-flavor malts all over it. pretty bad.

Draft at the brewery. Pours a deep, somewhat cloudy mahogany with almost no head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, nuts, molasses, and dates. Flavor follows suit. Nice balance. Medium body with modest carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Really nice. Hit the spot. dfinney23 (3424) - Houston, Texas, USA - OCT 28, 2012
Pours dark brown with little head. Big coffee aroma and taste with some chocolate and figs. Thank you sir, may I have another? troopie (2439) - Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon, USA - OCT 27, 2012
Bottle. Very dark with a beige head. Fruity aroma. Roast malt flavour with a light caramel note. Well balanced finish BeerZack (432) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - OCT 24, 2012
Smells roasty and toasty. Tastes kinda like an American brown ale or a stronger black lager, very roasty, but balanced and dry. nealblind (1977) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - OCT 24, 2012
A near perfect beer. Smells of oats and alcohol. Delivers on coffee, alcohol, chocolate flavors. I think it tastes as though there is some whisky/oak flavors also in the mix. Mouthfeel is baffling light until you look at the bottle and are reminded it is a lager. It also is a steal at seven bucks a six pack. I would pay that much for a bomber of this.
