Cola colored pour with a small khaki head. Sweet caramel, chocolate, and dark fruit aromas. A bit of roast, maybe some smoke, coffee, and licorice. A bit of cola, too. The flavor is quite sweet up front with a lot of caramel and dark fruit. Nice chocolate, roast, and coffee notes. A bit of smoke, some licorice, and a subtle hop flavor.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with ruddy glints. De minimis tan head. Aromas of roast malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is roast malt, coffee, chocolate, and something raisin. It’s pushing towards dry,but can’t quite get there. It seems to have noble hop in the bitter. Quite tasty.

"Light cocoa and coffee on the nose and especially in the flavor. Malt heavy and just a touch sweet. Pleasant and easy to drink. Could be one that I increase tr score down the road."

Bottle. Very dark pour with minimal head. Very nice aroma and taste of sweet chocolate, dark fruit, and mild roast. Decent heft to the palate. I’m enjoying this.

Wow, completely not what I was expecting. Pours out a creamy black with a thin beige laceful head. Sweet nose of caramel malts and dark malty sweetness, a little roast, with a hint of light cocoa and fig. Flavor was woody and malty with heavy-medium sweetness, nice tones of chocolate and caramel mixed with a little raisin or other dark fruity tones, roastiness, and a long smooth creamy finish. Nice little aftertaste of black licorice and dark earthy malty caramel.

phaleslu (10957) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 28, 2012
Draft at the brewery. Pours a deep, somewhat cloudy mahogany with almost no head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, nuts, molasses, and dates. Flavor follows suit. Nice balance. Medium body with modest carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Really nice. Hit the spot.
