UPDATED: MAR 16, 2004 Bottle, Reserve 01. Pretty smelling. Very nice barleywine, bright, syrupy, balanced, with a spicy end. "Big" is the right word for it, and for once I am really enthusiastic about a big beer. // Re-rate: I had this again, this time on tap with a '01 vintage, at the Full Sail Pilsner Room, Portland, and I wouldn't change my rating much if at all. Lovely, sippable barleywine. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - MAR 22, 2003
Bottle, 2001. Pinkish-amber. Pretty smelling, floral. Quite strong, grapefruit and Chinook hops make their presence known. Agressive as hell, wonderfully challenging but a complete palate wrecker. I can't believe we're drinking this second in a tasting of 15 beers! Andrew196 (1903) - Katy, Texas, USA - MAR 22, 2003
(2001) Orange-red in color, slightly cloudy. Avg head on top. This b-wine is a great representation of the style IMO. Lots of alcohol and a great hoppiness to it.....very well balanced and easy to drink. nstal (237) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 21, 2003
Pours beautifully, very smooth, very rich, very balanced. Much like foghorn, enough quantity made to have some consistancy. Yummy jskendzel (602) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 19, 2003
Quite thick and rich head. Alcohol evident. Good ester perception and spices as well, some nut characteristic--very drinkable.

This must have been the beer the beer that Benjamin Franklin was talking about “beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy’
It’s a big beer 01 vintage and I love the smell, fruit, and malt, some flowery hops. All that and more in the taste. The very best

Fair amount of carbonation. Creamy, tight packed head. Hazy amber color. Hops and malt character in the aroma. Alcohol is warming and apparent. The hoppy bitterness is a nice addition. pivo (2685) - GERMANY - MAR 7, 2003
Huge beer. Starts with a great fruity and malt nose. Attractive: slighlty cloudy red-amber color and a tight creamy head. Complex tastes of toasted malt, dark fruits (raisins), and spices (cinnamon in the middle), with a peppery end. Finishes with a long hoppiness that is not overpowering like bigfoot. Fantastic balance - love it! This shows some very controlled, sophisticated brewing. Went perfect with Yogi_Beera's apple pie. YogiBeera (2569) - New Jersey, USA - MAR 3, 2003
Mmmhh, this Barley wine is sheer lunacy. Apple and cinnamon, very fruity flavorsome. Nice creamy layer of a head on this warm amber nepenthe stroked by soft bubbles. Apples and grapes are alternate in the taste, spicey - peppery with cinnamon tones and also malt. Medium bitter finish. Smooth and silky with a lingering taste accompanied by soft undertones of acohol this slides down my throat and my brain get's torpedoed with the song of "you want more, you want more!" It warms your stomach right away, well balanced though complex. Thanks a lot ecrivich! mixamatt (427) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAR 1, 2003
02 Bottle.Hoppy, fruity strawberry, peach aroma.Dark bronze appearance.Sour, bitter fruity, flavors of mellons, peaches and berries.More smooth and fruity than bitter as opposed to most North-west barly wines.
