Pours an opaque amber with a medium tan head. Aroma has caramely malts and light earthy tea notes. Flavor is hoppy...earthy tea...caramely malt...light fruitiness. Mouthfeel is medium full with a bitter earthy/fruity finish. Nightsky (176) - Lutz, Florida, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Aroma is citrus like and sweet. Slightly hazy, golden brown color. Citrus taste with an immediate bitterness that lingers for a bit. Good middle of the week beer.

Not the best barleywine I've ever tasted, but decent. Smell is hoppy and sickly sweet, like some new style IPAs. Thick frothy palate that hides the high ABV. Taste is actually light, with a bitter finish. jtd6628 (362) - North Carolina, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Great beer. Aroma is malty sweet hint of caramel. Appearance is bright brown. Taste is malty caramel and nice hop finish. zizzybalubba (1886) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAY 6, 2012
On tap at the Full Sail Tasting Room & Pub in Hood River, OR. I was poured the 2011 version. Dark orange pour with a light off-white head. Aroma of tangerine, caramel, and brown sugar. Light floral aromas as well. Citrus hops noted first but then an assertive malt backbone greets the tongue. Whiskey-like finish. Medium bodied. A good barleywine.

Bomber. Smooth, complex and balanced. Rich malty flavors with mild bitterness. Carbonation is just right. Finish is thick and sweet with some pine and alcohol. Tasty. nick76 (4402) - Tampa, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2012
The aroma is malty and alcoholic with plenty of hops. The appearance is light amber with an average head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall this is good. Palidor19 (3193) - Brandon, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2012
this beer has a strong alcohol in raw strength. the taste of the malts and hops are in pretty good balance while neither side is overly dominate. the malts have a slight toasty flavor.

You definitely want to drink this beer at room temp, chilled the smell and taste of alcohol was very strong. As it warmed up it was much smoother and more malty. Onenote81 (1002) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 24, 2012

Pours a deep ruby tinted amber with a great frothy white head on top. Retention is fairly good, and lots of spotty lacing all over the glass. Very pretty. Smells of red licorice, strawberries, bananas, and a touch of floral hoppiness. Very sweet smelling.
Mouthfeel is nice and firm. Very easy to drink. Flavor is right off the bat full of hoppy goodness. Grapefruit all the way. As it warms this turns to sweet molasses flavor and toasted caramel. Wow. I was impressed with this beer. I got the 2007 as well, and I look forward to seeing how it compares. Recommend.

This bottle was also received from breity in a trade over a year ago. Thanks, Andrew!
Poured into a tulip glass. Pours a very cloudy dark ruby/amber. Great frothy tan head on top. Retention was firm, and it left a good bit of sticky lace on the glass. Scents of molasses, soy, urine(?), and toffee. Different. Not as sweet as I expected. Great full-body on this one still. Carbonation level is spot-on. The flavors turned a bit harsh with this one. I thought this would be mellower, but it’s a little grating. Moderate-to-high bitterness. The sweetness is absent in the flavor as well. Expected more a toffee flavor, but instead I get some mild citrus, leather, and that bitter back end. Not too bad, but I enjoyed this more with just 1-year on it, instead of 3. Ah well.
