Sample from 2007 batch at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VI on 10/03/2014. Dark amber color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Patchy lacing. Aroma of malt, pine and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, citrus and resiny hops. The finish is sweet with a charred malt and caramel aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

2008 vintage. A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. A nice caramel ,alt, with vinous notes, and nice floral c-hops. In mouth, licorice, sweet malt, good floral c-hops. Nice and smooth, with warming alcohol in finale. A solid barley wine. Bottle from Bottle Barn, tasted August 21, 2009. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 14, 2002
(reserve 99) Cloudy orange with small light tan head. Floaties at bottom of pour. Big hoppy aroma -- citrus mostly. Plenty of malts there too, some sweetness. The flavor is sweet and rich. Sweet rich flavor --tastes like they kept adding the malts well past the point of sanity. Also some kick ass hoppiness. The aftertaste is involuntary shudder alcohol bitter burn. Definitely a sippy, not a session, beer. BeerandBlues2 (14018) - Escondido, California, USA - OCT 14, 2004

"piney, good balance of malt and hops, and smooth and drinkable even though it has a kick. good, but not one of the best. I’ll usually pick up a bottle any time I find one. 2/10-have had a couple pedestrian bottles. the 07 version not aging well. docked a couple tenths." hopdog (13191) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 10, 2005

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2015 2004 edition. A very well done barleywine, nicely hopped and malted. Cloudy peach to amber with pretty head. A great complement to the food and very quaffable. Noted caramel, citrus juice, fruit, slight licorice, candy, bittersweet great combination. Wonder how it would be aged.
Well, had 2011 after 4 plus years, and not so great. deyholla (12583) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 15, 2010
2007 bottle thanks to Sean. Poured a hazy orange amber with a near white head at that dissipated quickly to the the edges. Aroma was full of malt with grain, bread, caramel and a slight toffee note coming through. The flavor was also full of malt with the notes listed above, especially with caramel and toffee giving the beer a sweet finish.
