[2003 bottle] Hazy reddish orange with little head, but a ring of white foam that leaves a milkshake-like coating. Interesting fruity aroma with malt, peach, banana, some butterscotch, pineapple, and dried apple. Unfortunately the nice aroma was followed by a musty and highly bittered flavour that contained some malt reminiscent of an english pale ale with a little papaya and cardboard. Mouthfeel was puckering from the bitter and sourness.

Clear light copper colour with thin biege head. Woody alcohol nose. Full body woody bitter alcohol taste with warming alcohol and hop finish.

Bottle dated 2004.Pours a somewhat cloudy hazy dark amber color with no head but lots of tiny bubbles, oily on the glass. Nose is not very outright as it seems to be a little sweet and syrupy. Not much on the hops. There is some sour apple from it tho. Man, I am a little bummed that this doesnt have much to it.I have a 1999 that I open just to see if this one is off.

Pours a dark hazy amber color. Aromas of fruit, malts, and floral hops. Flavors of dark fruit, a hint of smoke, and nice hops. Lots of alcohol in the finish.

2005 bottle. Pours nicely, clear and copper with a big frothy head on top. Hops and alcohol dominate this one from start to finish. I really didnt get any of the maltiness or fruit that are mentioned in the commercial description. In fact, it kind of tasted like an ashtray. After a bit, the hops loosened their grip, and I got a fleeting sense of some malt, but never any fruit. For me, way too bitter and unbalanced. I was a bit disappointed

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2009 Aroma- Estery and piney. The aroma is of warm holiday smells, like cinamon, apple pie. Appearance- Dark Copper, nice tan head that has some staying power. Flavor- There are flavors that are similar to the aroma, but with an extremely bitter kick. Crazy Hoppy. I like that it favors a fresh taste over the taste of dried fruits, but the hop bitterness detracts from the taste. Palate- A Barleywine has a tendency to be too cloying and chewey, but this is relatively light in body. Alcoholic dryness is abundant, but seems to work. Hops linger on the roof of my mouth for a while and tend to become more overpowering as the beer is consumed. It is important to share with a friend.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: Poured an orange brown with white head. Aroma is alcohol and fermented fruit. Taste is very sour mixed with over powering alcohol.

Deep dive into the rotter for this 2009 reserve barley wine gold ale. Rich toffee. Raisin rum cake. Musty sherry. Oxidized grape drank. Bit of sharp coffee medicine. Better than expected given what was in front of me. Rotted just fine.

2004 bomber from Clark the man, thanks!!! Beautiful clear (hey, why others have had cloudy pour and I had 100% clear!?) coppery amber pour with a modest & quickly diminishnig head. Aroma has hints of PNW hops but (again) not as much I was hoping for. Other components of the aroma are some bubblegum, peppery spices, number of fruits, alcohol and some kind of thinner. Carbonation is harsh and the body surprisingly thin. Flavor has many things going on with burning alcohol in the front but to be honest Im not too impressed. Actually theres something unpleasant in the flavor all the way that bothers me. I dont know if this is oxidized or something. Should try and find another bottle. I cant imagine what aging wouldve done to this particular bottle. Harm I guess.
