The pour is a clear, orangey-gold color with a moderately full, fluffy, white, pillowy head which settles to a very thin froth and leaves frothy, drippy lace. The nose is quite mild for an IPA but pleasant with spicy tones, some sweet biscuits, light apricot, some floral, and maybe a bit of earth. The flavor is instantaneously bitter and sharp with spice, leafy floral, herbal, and some tangerine. The palate is actually nice with a lively carbonation, an oily mouthfeel, and a medium body. The finish is long and highly bitter with the herbal notes and some tangerine. I have to appreciate the lasting bitterness left on the tongue but the intense sharpness throughout the beginning and middle of the beer is offputting. Interesting that the nose was so mild and the bittering of the Zeus hops just dominated the bitterness of the flavor. Typical Full Sail. Butters (4062) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 23, 2010
Bomber pours hazy light orange, kinda like the label actually! fair white head. Nose is sweet fruity hops, kinda like fruit cocktail. Flavor is assertive hop bitterness, cantalope, and grass, and some rubbing alcohol notes. Medium chewy body. Linger earthy bitter finish. Decent, especially for a fair price. Bottle: Pours golden with a modest beige head and bits of sticky lacing. Nose is mostly floral with some citrus and grapefruit. Wet mouthful reveals a bit more of the grapefruit and a nice floral bitterness. Lingering finish is bitter, but lightly sweet. Basic and drinkable. Thanks to Hayduke for this one. Shared via Facebook chat with Ron’s brother Rick. Pour is hazy effervescent golden brown. A small white head. Aroma is soft with tart hops and a hint of spice. Flavor begins with pink grapefruit which is a new taste for me. VERY bitter on the front. After a bit of warming that subsided somewhat and some tangerine and other citrus fruit showed. There was very little sweetness, especially at first. The tangerine helped but balance was never achieved. There was a unique hop mixture used which made for a fun beer to sample. jrob21 (3875) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 29, 2013
Crisp and refreshing but a little light on the hops. Grass and herbal notes. Touch of grapefruit on the finish. Some toasty bread malts give this a little more of a unique malt body.
