This brown ale poured with a slight tan head, eliciting a malty aroma. The initial flavor is spicy, almost medicine-tasting, with a bitter hoppy finish. A very unique, but slightly unpleasant brew.

Dark brown with yellowish shine. Full brownish head, lasting and lacey. Dark chocolate nose, sweet, fruity too (ripe plums, succade). Taste is very bitter, hops and bitter chocolate. Deep. Very full bodied, much more than expected from 6.5 ABV. Very long lasting aftertaste; bitter chocolate gets streamlined with the malt to a beautiful finish. Can’t help but like this beer.

Sample from a bottle at Cincinnati Winter Beer Fest (CWBF) 2013. Last one of the night. Kind of rushed this one, a drunk friend had just spilled beer on my notebook and I was writing around the wet spots. Clear brown. Decent khaki head. Spice, toasted malts. Smooth, ligther carbonation. More dry texture. Moderate spice. Solid spice ale. Light bitter. Light sweet.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle dark blackish red pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, roast malts, some slight biscuit, bread, dark fruits, caramelized sugars, nice spice with clove, slight cinnamon as well, slight earthy and spicy hops as well. Taste is spicy up front with cinnamon, clove, some cherry juice and dark raisin go into dark toffee, caramelizes sugars, dark fruits with a hint of earth, finishing fairly bitter and dry. Pretty nice, like the way this was crafted.

Pours out a very dark and deep ruby hue, creamy yet spotty khaki head that actually leaves pretty good lace. Smells like fruity malts with a subtle citrus hop. Taste is almost entirely different from the nose, and massively complex. Citrus rind bites at first, but gets pushed aside for a toast crust & caramel body. Dark fruits and nuts round out the end with some subtle winter spices. Interesting, but I don’t think I could drink a 6 pack.

Light brown beer with a thick tan head. Malty aroma, minty and herbal. Some spruce aroma and cherry fruitiness. Flavour is very nice, malty sweetness, caramel, orange peel, and spicy hop flavour. Moderately bitter finish. Nicely warming.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2013 Clear dark amber with a light tan head. Rich toffee’d plum juice, some burnt caramel and wet oak. Divine chewiness, robustness and a touch of roast, amazing all around, warming, relaxing, satisfying.

Bottle. Mahogony-brown color with a nice off-white head. Roasted malt and slight grapefruit hop aroma. Nice balanced malt and hop flavors along with spice, caramel, fruit, and brancy. Lingering bitterness.

blipp (9268) - La Mesa, California, USA - DEC 25, 2010
Bottle. Pours brown with an off white head. The aroma is grainy malty, with light toasty notes and some hoppy hints. The flavor is well balanced, with crackery pale malts, light toasty malt notes, and some floral-ish hoppy notes. Solid.
