Aromas of hops, malt, and alcohol. Dark brown with some red. no head. appears thin. Flavor of medium bodied hops with a sweet malt finish. Has a very "full sail" taste. alanC (36) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 6, 2004
Deep amber color with low to medium carbonation and head dying fast. Little aroma. Pretty rich caramel malt flavor and well balanced with hops. OK Beer. willblake (2654) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - JAN 12, 2004
Pours a reddish brown, dark, rich brown head. Nice. Aroma of spiced, chocolate truffles and booze. Thick, though not syrupy body is pleasant enough to have another. A decent winter beer that warms the spirits, but there are better winter choices. Would have appreciated more bitterness, but malt seems nicely balanced. This dark brown nectar of the gods was awesome. I liked the malt and floral flavors with the hint of hops. Of course a brew from the northwest has to have Hops. This was a lighter version of most Winter wamers but was stil a great beer for the style. dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - NOV 13, 2005
Aroma of cinammon, nutmeg, caramel, pine. Appears a crystal-clear deep mahogany with a small creamy tan head that dissipates. Flavor is bitter, hoppy, followed by chocolate and roast over a decent malt base; well-spiced. Palate is medium, slick and moderately effervescent. Overall, this beer is a bit greater than the sum of its parts. Ratman197 (14976) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - DEC 4, 2005
On tap @ Falling Rock poured a clear dark brown with a small but lingering tan head. Aromas of toffee and spice with a hint of dark fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavor was malty with a hint of bitter chocolate and a smooth clean finish. Illini08 (542) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - DEC 24, 2005
Bottle sampled at hey_kevin’s Iowa City gathering. Light brown in color with a light ruby red color showing up around the edges. Slightly hoppy aroma along with some malt. Slightly hoppy finish. This wasnt bad, but it wasnt very memorable either. imrichbeeeatch (16) - USA - DEC 31, 2005
Late 2005, on tap at local restaurant. Pours deep mahogany color with nice creamy white head. Aroma is sweet malt and nice American hops. Resin, citrus, pine. The aroma was probably my favorite part of the beer. The first taste is all hops, tasted as expected from aroma. Then it turned sweet. I was able to taste the bready malt and a slight chocolate flavor which was nice. Then the hops snap back into action, cleaning my mouth. It has nice body, full but not heavy. It was a little to sweet for my taste. Fine beer, but not my favorite from these guys.
