Patterson Pumpkin is a deceptively smooth Imperial Pumpkin Ale. This seasonal "feast" begins with a grain menu comprised of 2-Row Pale, Dark Munich, Red Wheat, and Carapils malts joined with Pumpkin in the mash. Sterling, Willamette, and Crystal hops are added to the boil to balance the malt sweetness. Finally, for the delectable pumpkin pie taste and aroma, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and brown sugar are added; creating a rich, full-bodied, Fall drinking experience you’ll want to revisit again and again.

12oz bottle from Wine World. I bought this out of a discount 99 cent bin. I bought it in September, so I am pretty sure this was already a year old. I don’t like pumpkin beers but figured I’d give this a shot. So, expectations going in were low. But maybe the age actually helped this beer our because I am actually digging it. Color is hazy dark orange gold. Big head at first but settles into a thick halo lacing, not sticky. The beer isn’t bucking with over the top spices associated with American pumpkin seasons. Aroma is a lightly barleywined beer with light spices. Its akin to the new Ballantine Burton Ale with some spices. There is a present, faintly cherry alcohol with mild spices. Flavor has a slightly more spice kick but a heavy but not stinging alcohol heft. Finishes with some fruit cake flavors and a graham cracker, pumpkin pie flavor. Not strong carbonation which makes the medium body a little heavier. Yet, there is a carbonation tingling on the front of the tongue. A warming alcohol long aftertaste, which is nice. I must have a crazy unrepresentative bottle. But that’s why I keep buying the crap, because once in a while its worth it.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. A good off white head which thins to nothing after a few minutes. Decent lacing. Aroma is good and nicely filled with fall spices. Taste is lightly sweet and medium to heavy bitter. A medium bodied beer with thin texture and average carbonation. A little hoppy for a pumpkin ale. Hops overtake the fall spices in finish. Little disappointing overall.

>> Opaque brown pour with medium thick foam. Nose is cinnamon bread, spices, Twizzlers. Taste is perfume, too dry, Michael’s arts and crafts store. Dusty, sickly finale. Drainpour.

Bottle. Clear amber color, cream colored head. Aroma of cinnamon toast. Taste has vanilla, mixed pumpkin spice. OK.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange body with a one finger frothy off-white head. Some nice lacing. The nose is a bit heavy handed on the nutmeg and ginger for my tastes, it obscures the pumpkin pretty much. A sweet caramel malt base. If the aroma was heavy handed, then the flavor is even more so. The ginger especially jumps out at me, and I don’t really see that as a flavor that I associate all that much with pumpkin beer, or even pumpkin pie for that matter. Very spicy and hot from the ginger and cinnamon, though the heavy sweet malt base does do a bit to temper it. Lingering spic finish. Medium bodied and a bit clingy with firm fizzy carbonation. Don’t real dig the spice bill on this one.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark orange color with a small foamy white head. Aroma was serious pumpkin pie notes, brown sugar. Alcohol is noticeable. Flavor was notes of pumpkin gourd, pumpkin pie spices. A touch boozy on the finish.
