Very dry, dark chocolate returns in flavor, together with sweet malts and hay. Alcohol and malts dominate aftertaste.
Bubbly, slightly acidic palate.
Very nice altogether. WISEGUY572 (1377) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 7, 2005
I need to come back to this in another year or two. Nose is sweet. Appearance is cloudy dark copper, with a small off white head. Taste is sweet, with malt, dried fruit, toffee or maple, and a lingering bitter finish. Much nicer than their Golden Pride, which has all of the same elements but without much integration; this hangs together nicely. In another year or two it may seem a little less sweet, and the alcohol may be a little bet less apparent. I preferred the 1999, which had a chance to age more before a drank it. Still, this is a truly lovely beer. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - OCT 27, 2005
Bottled. Hazy reddish orange, beige mediumsized head. Strong chocolate and dry fruit in aroma along with grassy hints. Strong malt, caramel and alcohol in flavour with hints of hayish dryness, grassyness and papery hints. Very complex and full flavour. Pleasant and smooth palate. Malts, caramel, hay and alcohol in the long aftertaste. veronika (410) - SWEDEN - AUG 2, 2005
Amber/orange, offwhite head. Aroma from sweet fruit, vanilla and strawberries, almond, nuts and red wine. Flaovr brings alcohol and almond, somewhat fruity. Aroma is much better than the flavor BBB63 (6567) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 7, 2005
I received this bottle from my Santa Mads, many thanks! The brew poured a rich coppery hue with a lasting off-white head and very good lacing. The aroma starts with caramelized malts, honey, english toffee, vanilla, overripened apple, non aromatic pipe tobacco and a hint of oak. The taste starts with a heavy dose of bittersweet character with both hops and malts in wonderful balance. A vinous almost sherry combined with bourbon overtone hits in midsection. A beautiful oaky and smoky bitterness finished off the experiance. The feel is lush but not as heavy as the 1999 or the 2001. It is peaking it seems and is becoming the equal to the more celebrated vintages of past. Yes, I love Fullers Vintage Ales I case you have not figured it out. This rates right up there with the best. Sampled along a 1999, 2000 (which I am about to rate) and 2004. I want, no make that NEED another bottle. Please!
