Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: ’ deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.’ Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: ’the Cognac of beers’.

2012-11-08, draught at Locus Publicus, Rotterdam, 7-5-6-3-13=34
Clean amber color, creamy head. Some caramel aroma and flavor; very moderate sweetness; ordinary bitterness, a bit of nutty touch. Not as rich as the bottle I remembered.

2011-08-22, bottle, 7-5-7-3-13=35
Beautiful, bright dark amber color, with generous creamy head. The aroma is malty but also simple, with nuts and tones of vegetables. Good body strength, with moderate sweetness; malt and caramel flavor, decent, unfortunately followed by some vegetables and alcohol; it ends with correct bitterness and a hint of nuts, also with alcohol warmth.
Too much.

Amber color; poor head. Nice malt aroma, strong; wood, cellar. Warming, malty, loads of caramel; very good structure. Powerful. Of course not as much complex as the Vintage Ale, but I liked it…

Bottle at home, from Waitrose Sunningdale, 16/02/13. Pours an almost clear dark golden with a thin white head that vamooshes edgeward allied to evidence of carbonation in the form of bubbles. Nose carries caramel, candle wax, sweet sugars, berry fruits, touch of wood, honey. Taste comprises sweet sugars, rich caramel notes, dark ripe orange, citrus tones, touch of booze. Medium bodied with bite, moderate carbonation, dryish sweet finish. Carbonation flattens and improves over time. Ok but to be honest I’d rather drink standard pride any day ! Have had this on cask in the past and seem to remember it being better than this ! Need to revisit said version! Came across more so as a barley wine to me in terms of style!

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2003 Amber with a small but creamy head. Has a wonderful sweet aroma from toffee and butter. Flavor is sweet as well, some toffee, and turns into a salty and bitter finish. Really good...

Bottle. Amber orange colour. Toffee and caramel with warming alcoholic kick. Sweet burnt toffee aroma, hoppiness is there but the tang is almost burnt off by the alcohol. Some appley fruit, but the toffee is great

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2009 Bottled
Dark copper brown. Small brown head. Crisp, menthol nose like in Fuller’s Old Winter Ale. Medium-bodied. Coffee, salt, hops in well-balanced taste. Good but not a typical barley wine like it was styled in an advertisement. (6/4/7/4/14 3.5)
Re-rate, bottled (BB 02/2010). Clear amber color, steady creamy beige head. Strong aroma of toffee, nuts, menthol and lemon. Thick, caramelly, alcholic, nutty malty with toffee and dark fruits. Long alcoholic aftertaste. Hard to enjoy so much as drinkability is poor. (6/4/6/3/12 3.1)

Oakes (17129) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 12, 2009
Bottle, found in Saigon. Dull amber-brown colour. Has a deep, chewy malt aroma showing traces of oxidation. There are subtle brown sugar accents but in general the aroma is muddled. Rich, with light brown sugar, light oxidation, some dried leaf notes from hops, and a little bit of pithy hop bitterness underpinning it all. It lacks the vibrant yeast of a classic example, being pasteurized. Finishes chewy, with a light booziness and a hint of leafy hop bitterness.

Bottle. It’s a clear, copper colored beer topped by a diminishing finger-thick beige head. Alcohol, syrupy sweetness, dried apricots and caramel on the nose, rather pleasant. The same goes for the flavor, which is sweet and sugary, with caramel, dried apricots, fresh fruits and a balancing bitterness. Some alcohol too, full-bodied and next to sticky on the palate. Warming, sweet and pleasantly bitter finish. Nice. 100213
