COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle. Also available in keg for export only. The very occasional cask version is only available in the UK and has a separate listing.
Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: ’ deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.’ Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: ’the Cognac of beers’.

Appearance: Clear copper/amber, with a short lived ivory head. Aroma: Liquorice, fruit cake/malt loaf, dried fig, biscuity, orange marmalade, slightly spicy, golden syrup, hint of yogurt and slight cognac. Taste: Low/medium sweetness, medium/high bitterness, low/medium sourness, liquorice, treacle and fruit cake. Palate: Medium body with full mouthfeel, smooth texture, medium/high carbonation, quick dry bitter finish with alcohol warmth towards the end. Comments: Lovely, rich and delicious. No glass lace.

Van de tap in de klep, ABT bier van de maand. Helder roodbruin bier. Ruikt wat zurig en moutig. Smaakt idem. Medium body. De 8,5 procent alcohol valt niet op. Niet zo mijn smaak.

great barleywine. hazy orange color, fluffy head. malt and fruits in the aroma. big malty base with a niuce complexity. strong and warming stuff. Hsad this at Fullers brewery and the guide said that many fullers employees liked to blend the golden pride with the Chiswick bitter. this was a very nice combination indeed.

Maku on vahvan pähkinäinen, karamellin tukemana.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper colour with a shortlived white head. Aroma of malt, hops and spring. Taste is of malt, hops, sugar, caramel and sweet fruits, but has a bitter hoppy aftertaste with lots of alcohol in it. Medium body.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2007 Bottle from Waitrose (as recommended by Waitrose’s own beer researcher!) Dark amber colour with thin soapy head. Immediate impression of aroma: wet dog. A step back and a second whiff: still smells like a wet dog! My slightly more sophisticatd side says it’s actually roasted vegetables and granary bread. Full bodied and quite sweet. Sweetness is balanced with a rough edge of roasted malts. Nice, long walnut finish. Difficult to judge the strength without a peek at the bottle. In other words, a very tolerable 8.5%. Enjoyable.

Bronze coloured ale with small head. Caramel malts, some bitter cherry and some toffee sweetness. Caramel, toffee, some ripe fruits and mainly sweet flavors. Some bitterness at the end. Rich texture and enjoyable Strong Ale.
