COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle. Also available in keg for export only. The very occasional cask version is only available in the UK and has a separate listing.
Goldings hops and Golden Promise malt.
At 8.5% ABV, Golden Pride guarantees a superb range of flavours, that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Our brewers describe Golden Pride thus: ’ deep amber in appearance, Golden Pride is full bodied, of moderate bitterness, moderately hopped and rich in malt. Full flavoured, and reminiscent of sweet orange oil, toasted grains, and bread. Rich malty aromas lead to a similarly styled palate, with an intense finish. Sweet and bitter flavours are expressed in good balance in this weighty brew.’ Or as the late Michael Jackson, beer writer and connoisseur, put it: ’the Cognac of beers’.

50cl bottle, as shown. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a medium-sized, creamy off-white head with decent retention and plenty of lacing. Aroma is of dried fruit: raisins, some orange peel, plus caramel. Medium carbonation and a thick, creamy and oily mouth feel that, at 8.5 % abv, should surprise no one. A full-bodied strong ale, as I’ve come to expect from Fuller’s. Taste is of sweet roasted malt, toffee, stewed dark berries, with a lot of herbal spices adding to the complexity of this brew - again with a freshening note of orange peel. Malty, full, medium dry finish and gripping, slightly boozy after taste. Very similar to the much more expensive "Vintage Ale", which seems logical if that beer is indeed based on Golden Pride (same abv, to begin with). Unlike the "Vintage" variety, it’s pasteurized. As with all the strong ales and premium esbs from Fuller’s, this one is beautifully balanced, with the strong alcohol well integrated into the intricate fabric of aromas. Sweetness and malty bitterness complement each other brilliantly, If you’re searching for the perfect "fireside brew", look no further.

A sweet aroma with a hint of caramel, roast. A bit of alcohol can be felt as well as some woodiness. Quite sweet with a very little bitterness. Full bodied and rather strong. A nice beer for cold winter evenings.

A clear red/amber with small head. Aroma is a lovely mix of bread and a floral tang - a great sniff! With the taste, the bitterness comes through more than the sweet malt, but work together well and are both present in the finish. The body is quite light, but not watery and carbonation is present. Overall I would say this is a well balanced and wonderfully tasty brew.

Bottle at the Dickens. Massive beer. Aromas of dough, caramel, hints of alcohol and flowers. Taste is sweet, with light sour and bitter notes, and very long length. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

Yum! Fruity raisin aroma, liquid gold a triumph from Fullers, tastes of steeped fruits, prunes, hoppy and rich , full bodied, great for an autumn day or by a roaring log fire at Christmas time, not easy to find so if you see it buy it.
