This limited edition brew is a unique collaboration between brewery and beer writer. Melissa Cole brought her vast experience to the tasting table and helped us deliver a stout worth writing home about.

Brewed in the traditional style that became a favourite royal court, this limited edition Imperial Stout has been specially created as a single brew. In a unique addition to the historic recipe, the floral character of the Centennial hops is enhanced by the inclusion of rose buds, lending a hint of Turkish delight flavour to the beer. This Imperial Stout has a rich, dark appearance with strong chocolate and deep cherry notes which lead to a lighter, bitter finish.

Blueshawk (465) - Bad Bellingen, GERMANY - OCT 3, 2016

500ml - cellared for 2 years. Served at room temperature. Pours a deep, dark brown (almost black) with a ruby tint. Head is small, tanned, dense and lasts very well. Aroma is rich and complex; roasted barley, chocolate brownies, raisins, caramelized dates, cherry liquor chocolates, aniseed, treacle, hints of leather, and touch of smoke/charcoal. Flavour is complex and smooth with a medium earthy/roasted hop bitterness; toasted barley, prune paste, dried currants, dark cherry chocolate, milk chocolate bullets, roasted chestnuts, molasses, moist soil, burlap, a touch of smoke, and notes of burnt oak in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation, a thick/oily texture and a superbly long/dry finish. Easily the best and most well-rounded imperial stout I have tried so far!

Black pour with a fizzy tan head that quickly recedes... plenty of roasted malt, burnt treacle stickiness... relatively thin body, drinks below it’s weight. A bit over carbonated for my tastes, but a cracking beer all the same.

Bottle. Black pour with a light tan head. Aroma is dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is chocolate, some raisin and plum, Nice rich and smooth flavour, a little creamy, more sweet than bitter and roasty.

07.09.2016, cask @ Amager ølhus. Served in 25 cl lager glass. Pours dark brown with minor tan head. Nose of malts: roasted and chocolate. Taste mostly chocolate with some bitterness, but not much in terms of body. A bit of warmth from alcohol. Relatively dry finish.

Gehbe (442) - Vilnius, LITHUANIA - SEP 1, 2016
Pours black with a small tan head, no lacing. Rather dull aroma for an imperial stout, dominated by roasty and smoky notes with some herbal+fruity notes and cooked bread notes underneath. Taste is strong roasty bitterness upfront followed immediately by strong sweetness. Thick body, medium carbonation, strong alcoholic warmth. It’s a good beer but I’ve had many way better imperials. Disappointing.

Black color with a beige head, medium duration. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, ripe black fruit and wooden hints. Flavor is slightly sweet, good presence of roasted malts, black chocolate and coffe beans. Liquor notes in the final without presence of alcohol that is hidden by roasted malts. Dense and smooth on palate with light sweet hints.

thb (829) - Alberta, CANADA - AUG 26, 2016
Inky black with slight dark brown around the edges. Minimal bubbles, going away quickly. Aroma is potent - dark fruits, toast, espresso. Lots of fruit. Roses, too. Taste is huge, rich, coffee, chocolate, cherry, raisin. Thick, creamy (borderline syrupy) mouthfeel. No alcohol heat, just some tingles on the finish. Superb.

Sample from a bottle at DØE 2016. Black with a beige head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, cocao and smoke.

Raisins on the nose. Chocolate & coffee flavour. Surprisingly good! Rated by BrewTom
