This limited edition brew is a unique collaboration between brewery and beer writer. Melissa Cole brought her vast experience to the tasting table and helped us deliver a stout worth writing home about.

Brewed in the traditional style that became a favourite royal court, this limited edition Imperial Stout has been specially created as a single brew. In a unique addition to the historic recipe, the floral character of the Centennial hops is enhanced by the inclusion of rose buds, lending a hint of Turkish delight flavour to the beer. This Imperial Stout has a rich, dark appearance with strong chocolate and deep cherry notes which lead to a lighter, bitter finish.

Bottled. Pretty much black colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is liquorice, chocolate, coffee, some fudge/toffee notes as well as mild herbal notes. Flavour is sweet liquorice, chocolate, coffee, nutty notes along with some fudge as well as some mild grassy and herbal notes. Hides the alcohol rather nicely. Very tasty.

The (not so) shit beer tasting at Leightons stratospheric flat. Opaque dark brown beer with a good pale tan head. Palate is airy, light and semi dry. The dark malts are not too heavy and carry just a touch of roast. Little malt cream and blackcurrant fruits. Touch of coffee. Light mildy bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Gut!

Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival 2013 - Le Gothique. The beer pours oily black-brown with a mellow, creamy brown head. The aroma holds lots of burnt wood, dark chocolate, well roasted malts and burnt marshmallows. It’s medium sweet with a nice torched wood character, subtle pine, dark fruits, rich chocolate and restrained bitterness. Medium to full in body with fine carbonation, the beer rests easy on the palate. It finishes with light dry burnt wood, further rich chocolate, earthy bitterness and more scorched marshmallows. The most impressive thing about the beer is the balance between the intense depth of flavor and it’s drinkability; for a 10.5% beer, it was far too easy to drink this beer. This was my favorite of the festival.
