Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW - London. Pours clear copper with a frothy, light khaki head. The aroma holds cheap, lightly toasted malts, grains, hints of caramel. Light sweet flavour with notes of leathery berries, orange peel, more grainy bread, leafy hops. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Finishes with some leafy hop bitterness, toasted grains, earth, aged berries. Not especially pleasant, but not bad.

Cask at the Wykenham Arms, Winchester. Feint creamy aroma. Dark chestnut, good thick off-white head. Slight bitterness, a hint of something like cloves. Boring. Soft palate. OK. Nothing to make it stand out as a seasonal.

[email protected] Bar, Copenhagen (04/02/2016) - pours dark amber with a good sized off-white head. Toasty bready malts with some caramel and treacle sweetness, nice herbal twiggy hoppy backing, nutty, some nice dark fruity nuance, decent winter bitter.

The Slug and Lettuce, Leicester, 23/12/15. Pale ruby with a loose beige fringe. Nose aniseed, pine cone and varnished wood. Berries, raisin and toffee with an almond alcohol note. Biscuit linger. Orange peel and wafer. Safe coniferous hop. Pleasant with squashy dark prune tones as it warms. Good.
