12oz pour a dark brown almost black with very little head. The aroma is distinctly british and the flavor is deep and that of burnt toast. Very rich and nicely smokey.

Pours a dark, cola color into a pint. Quickly receding head uniformly gathers around the edge of the glass. Dark roasted caramel, chocolate and coffee notes. Full with a roasted bitter hop finish that lingers.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2006 12 oz bottle. Big 3 inch head. A tan bubbling cesspool as it settles to a slice of loofa, then to doily. Deep ebony color. Aroma of 7-Up with just the faintest coffee and chocolate; more as it warms. Licorice and a little smoke. Taste is bitter and sort of chocolatey. Coffee comes through in the middle. Creamy but not rich. I didn’t get the alcohol I expected but higher ABV might help. Hoping this would be close to the Alpha Klaus but just so-so.

Diogène (1208) - Mirabel, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 4, 2006
Bottle Very dark brown to black body with a medium brown head. Aroma is coffee, and chocolate. Taste is coffee, chocolate and malt with a nice touch of bitterness.

maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 28, 2006
Clear dark cherry body with a thin creamy off-white head. Aroma of dark roasted malts and molassas. Flavor of coffee with light bitterness and chocolate malt, but with a decent helping of molassas.

beerdrinker101 (56) - USA - FEB 28, 2006
A coffee aroma with plenty of chocolate. The taste is sweet and that of coffee. The bitter aftertaste is perfect. This is up there with the Anchor Porter.

decaturstevo (6253) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - FEB 26, 2006
A rich coffee aroma with chocolate and malt. A quickly diminishing head with little lace. Light sweetness and excellent bitterness make this beer a true drinking pleasure. Creamy full body with soft carbonation across the tongue. Finishes with that bitter you gotta love. I’d love to be able to make one that is just a little sweeter. Man this baby is good.

4.3
jcr (2719) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - FEB 25, 2006
Deep ruby color. Aroma is roasty and sweet — chocoate and toffee. The flavor is full of roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee and smoke. Slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers with a roasted coffee taste. Smooth and creamy on the palate. An outstanding porter.

Numenor (871) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 25, 2006
Awesome black body with a light ivroy head. Excellent chocolate malts and some creams, maybe some coffee accents as well. Good coffee accents in the body, great smooth ending.
