Coffee-cream, chocolate maltiness. Fairly easy drinking. Lack of bitterness may disappoint some.

Beautiful, rich nose with loads of roasted malt. Thick and coffee like.Hit me like a ton of bricks. Layers of flavor finishes smooth with a butter toffee hint.

Good - smelled enticing, initial pour - exciting - however head died to a set of larger bubbles quickly. Lacked the silky mouthfeel that I have come to expect from porter - taste was a nice roasty finish - aftertaste was slightly overdone - all-in-all a good brew, top 5 but well behind Anchor and Samuel Smith's porters.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2004 Impossibly chocolatey aroma with lighter notes of roasty espresso and date. Dark brown color, clear, with a lasting, creamy head. Semi-sweet chocolate also dominates the flavor profile, which becomes roasty and develops hints of caramel and nut towards the finish. Medium body. Bubbly mouthfeel, moreso than I recall from samplings gone by. Certainly very tasty, and seemingly possessed of class as well.

My first porter, and still my favorite. Very impressive.....................

A definite global top 5 Porter. Full chocolate malt aroma and body; dark ruby red color; smooth mouthfeel with a mild Fuggles hop presence. I still lean to Sam Smith's Taddy, but this is right up there.

4.2
Oakes (19045) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 16, 2000
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2005 Near black colour. Chocolatey, vaguely nutty aroma. Fairly sweet, milk chocolatey flavour. Only a hint of roast. Moderate body, hint of earthiness. Finishes with some chewy, molassesy accents in the chocolate.

A great porter - and close to being definitive
for the style. Rich, with caramel and chocolate
flavors, with just a hint of hop bitterness.
Nicely balanced. Medium bodied and opaque black.
If you're looking for a good porter, look no further.
