COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned. Limited Edition. An authentic recipe from 1926.
Since 1845 every Fuller’s Head Brewer has kept a hand-written book of brews. The Past Masters series is a glimpse into our unique brewing history, using our archive of knowledge to revive long-lost beers for today’s connoisseurs.
This toasted, chocolate recipe was chosen to celebrate the 90th Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. It was brewed at the time of her birth in 1926 and was selected by our brewers and Gerry O’Brien, manager of our world-famous London pub, The Churchill Arms.
This is an unmistakably British porter brewed for the quintessential British icon. As a bottle-conditioned beer it contains sediment that allows the flavours to develop up until the moment the bottle is opened. This beer should be stored upright in a dark room and poured carefully when served.

Pullo @ Alko. Kaatuu snifteriin sysimustana, kuohkean sormen paksuisen vaahdon suojaamana.

Bottle, 01/07/17. Pours dark brown. Aroma is roast, oat, slight red fruit, chocolate. Taste is roast, oats, earthy. some fruitiness, slight liquorice, salty and otherwise. Half a liter is quite much of this stuff.

Sötétbarna szín, gyorsan tovatűnő bézs hab. Karamelles, malátás, kávés illat. Közepesen édes, némi keserűvel. Csokoládés, karamelles íz. Jó kis porter.

Pours virtually black from the bottle and leaves a tan head that eventually fades completely. Aroma is oatmeal sweet, chocolate. Taste is sweet, again oatmeal and chocolate, but with a lightly sour fruity note as well. In the direction of cherry. Despite the aromatic and taste complexities, the brew does not fully come together. The body feels thin at times, the carbonation brings the word "fizzy" to mind, especially on the swill. Finishes with with roasted caramel, chocolate. A touch thin, traditional, bordering on obsequious. Overall though this is still disappointment at a high level.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - BBE 2019, from Alko Arkadia, 20170520) The beer poured clear and nearly black. Its head was medium sized and nearly white. Aroma had burnt malts, dark chocolate and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, mildly sourness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. A pleasant burnt brew with mildly sweetness and sourness.

Marstonlad (885) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 10, 2017
Bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours black with a little white head. The aroma features licorice, rye bread, coffee and a hint of smoke. Taste is light sweet, medium roasty and malty; bread, nuts, licorice and coffee. No hoppiness. The palate is medium-bodied, seems a bit light-weight, though. Decent flavours but slightly too light in body.

2016 catch up - Draft and bottle at home - There was a strong taste of alcohol and spirit that dominated the flavour. Maybe it needs more time to mature in the bottle, but not one that I will have again.
