3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours mahogany brown-red, a looker, with a thin layer of scum that never settles. The aroma is lovely, dried fruit, delicious. The taste malty sweet, a good dose of crystal malt backed up by a surprising hop bitterness. The bitterness stays on for a while. The texture is super soft, in fact, the smoothness on the tounge is better than the taste itself. An excellent beer from a classic brewery.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark in the glass with a quite white head. Caramel, nuts with dry caramel, great voluminous in the nose. The beer starts fresh and deep, lots of nuts and caramel, smooth with moderate depth. Easy to drink, fresh, malty with moderate bitterness. The aftertaste is fresh, malty caramel, not too deep but round. Interesting.

Nice earthy rum barrel oak in the finish. Palate is medium sweet, woody, moderate carboantion, medium full bodied. Tasty layered malty beer. Lingering woody tannin .

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Crystal clear, deep red, half inch of tan foam. Aroma is fruity, with lots of cherry, toffee. Taste is similar, with a malt-forward opening (caramel, grains). Fruit builds as you move through towards a medium bitter, grainy finish. Mouthfeel is a little thin, to be honest, would like a little more heft. Alcohol does not seem to be there. Being a historic recipe, I suppose itís not trying to match any modern style exactly, but itís almost like an alcoholic esb?

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
bottle at home. Pours medium dark amber, like a coca-cola with water. Aroma is lightly malty and some gentle pine hops. A bit one sided. Medium body, lightly sweet, a bit of malt sweetness. Taste is bland actually, light salt caramel... and a tad smoky at the end.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from the Mad Bishop and Bear W2, intended to drink on a train but had no bottle opener, so here we are at home 18 months later... Pours chestnut brown and clear, persistent white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of sweet caramelly crystal malt, some bubblegum, a touch of íEnglish hopí character lingering on. Medium carb. Punchy flavour, some proper Burton character, a whiff of sulphur, assertive but very English rounded hop bitterness. Alcohol is a bit too noticeable for my liking. Itís solid enough - I remember it being better on cask at Ealing back in the day, but can only rate on whatís here.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
One of the best British style bottled beers Iíve had. I knew I would like this one, being a fan of Fullers, bottle conditioning and old fashioned recipes. It tastes kind of similar to 1845 but more hoppy, slightly more mellow and slightly more complex. Raisins, fruitcake, drying wood on the nose. Chocolate, licorice, stewed fruit, fruitcake and candy cane flavour. On the sweet side for my tastes but not too cloying. Would love to try this on cask.
