[Sampled 2004 - 6 years old] A hazy deep red beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is of burning alcohol combined with a little sweet malt and toffee. joergen (28106) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAY 27, 2006

, Stockholm. Deep ruby red colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel malts, some hops and wood. Flavour is plum, sraisins, alcohol with some vanillaish notes in the background. Flavour is much more plum, alcohol and wooden than the 97 vintage.
Bottled. Clear dark amber. Very sweet and really toffeeish. Caramelly and overly sugary. Mature salty finish with sugar and hoppy bitterness. Some beautiful flavours lures beneath the sea of sweetness. madmitch76 (24789) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 22, 2012

THE Barleywine tasting. Bottle won at a GBBF auction! Bottle No 56. Hazy brown beer, little tan head. Light smooth palate, airy. A little caramel and paper. Mild creamy toffee. Mild dried fruits. Hangs together pretty well and for a 14 year old beer has held up very well. However whilst backward extrapolation is subjective - I reckon this was a belter a few years ago. Anyone got one they have kept in the fridge since it was released? :)
Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting, London. A massive thanks to Kenneth for sharing what is surely one of the most sought-after Fuller’s beers around. Pours foggy, ruby-gold with a creamy, off-white head. dary caramel nose, some paper, definitely signs of oxidation, some dates and other rich, dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor with dusty brown sugar, bread, some leathery fruits, subtle cardboard coming through. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Mild dryness at the end, with dusty and toasty malts, some figs, faint cocoa, bread. Certainly a bit of oxidation has taken place, but there is still a great amount of rich, fruity character and soulful nuance to this beer. fiulijn (20491) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 20, 2006

Beautiful dark amber color; creamy head. The aroma is malty, with caramel, sweet nuts, almonds, a hint of alcohol. Powerful mouthfeel, the fermentation has accomplished an excellent balance (malt, sweetness, bitterness, caramel, alcohol). Strong caramel-bitter final. No signs of age…
Bottle split at Hackobock Tasting, massive thanks to Kenneth for liberating this aged whale into the wild ocean, 24/11/16.
Lightly hazed chestnut brown with a decent beige cap.
Nose is sweet malt, figgy jam, spice, toffee, fruit esters, light musty underpin.
Taste comprises fruit cake, biscuit crumble, fruit loaf, light smoke, dusty, dates.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Solid for the age, oxidization has set in but is pretty light, glad to have tried this one and not uncover a dud. Oakes (17664) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 18, 2003
Powerful ale with huge malt, a yeasty fruitiness with pear and peach notes, giving way to a powerful,
warming, lingering finish. The aroma is woody, malty, and herbal. TBone (17527) - Pori, FINLAND - OCT 7, 2007

Ruby red color, steady beige head. Light nose with plums, "Fullers licorice" and nuts. Much less intensive than 1997 vintage (which was sampled just before this). Sweetness, licorice, some late hoppyness. Nice rounded, liquerish mouthfeel.
