(No. 17512, sampled 5/30/02) Very nice sweet maltiness, minimal hops compared to American barleywines. While this is a very fine ale, it doesn’t live up to its price. JonR888710 (999) - Cochabamba, BOLIVIA - JUN 25, 2004
Cloudy, amber body with eggshell colored head. Smells english hops, dates, plums and squash big, sweet, complex and malty flavors. Yeast, grapes, alcohol, butterscotch, toffee all melding nicely on the tongue. Sampled from bottle# 53695 purchased at Toronado in San Francisco, CA. I just wish the Redskins would hurry up and make it into the playoffs so that I can next crack my '99 vintage I've been aging for over a year. DrewFace (969) - Melbourne, Florida, USA - FEB 2, 2014
Bottle share thanks to mcbackus. This on is legal is some states...I mean, uh. Pours a clear amber color with white head. Big caramel and toffee aroma, dark fruits, and alcohol. Chewy caramel flavor as well, boozy barrel like character, sweet, very tasty! zimbo (961) - SCOTLAND - MAY 4, 2015
Reddish brown and wonderfully complex with a stunning structure, this beer is pure magic and a perfect example of what Fuller’s can produce as a leading brewery. Fruit, plum bitter with strong robust delicious elegance and depth. Fantastic. xmarcnolanx (937) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - JAN 14, 2008
Aroma is big bright fruit and sherry. Sweet and sugary with ripe, full fruit.
Taste is oxidized, full sweet fruitiness with loads of sweet caramelized malt.
I can hardly describe how yummy this is. Actually, this reminds me a lot of the Yona Barleywine.
I get touches of heat, some hoppy bitterness.
This is rich, deep and complex.
Lots of crisp hop and fruit.
Very, very good.
This has aged gracefully and could go on for a few more years, but not too many more.
This is cloyingly sweet, dense red fruit, cloying caramelized malt, and slight hop bite.
I really like this beer a lot.

Fruity aroma with notes of bread, chocolate, alcohol, raisins and grapes.
Fruity flavor with notes of chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Hoppy ending. BrockLanders (780) - Panama City, Florida, USA - MAY 10, 2005
Pours a dark but clear amber. Great aroma as it warms...sweet malts and cara-toffee notes. Flavor is similar with lotsa sweet caramel maltiness, and a tad of hop presence and a nice alcohol kick. While not thin...it’s not as full bodied as I would’ve liked...still, a great ale---aged pretty damn well. jayme9874 (756) - Hamburg, New York, USA - NOV 9, 2001
Clear, deep amber.Decent head and lace. Sweet scottish like malt toasty nose. Full bodied, thick, syrupy and sweet mouthfeel, toffee and caramel palate, maybe a biscuity/toasty character as well...damn tasty and smooth. Alcohol hits and then warms the stomach. Disgustingly drinkable, wish i knew the alcohol content. I havent had it in awhile, but this reminds me of Anchor Foghorn. Fruity tones are more evident as the beer warms a bit and the beer clouds up after you get all the goodies from the bottom..strong and satisfying. beerslayer (753) - New Jersey, USA - FEB 10, 2005
This is a good English Strong Ale. Caramel, earthy wood, and malt flavors. Finishes clean, smooth, and warming. HumuloneRed (751) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUL 2, 2006
Bottle no. 14221. Pours a clear copper color with an excellent off white head and lacing. Mineral/earthy, grass, and malt in the nose. Pleasant earthy malt profile in the flavor with notes of leather and caramel as well. Good beer.
