Thanks to Bill for bringing this to the November tasting. Pours a Cloudy brown with a thin white head leaving spotty lacing. Strong alcohol aroma and vanilla oak. Medium mouthfeel with a smooth vanilla flavor and rich malt. Hides the alcohol very well and also aged very well. A very impressive English strong ale from Fullers. Bottle I received in a trade several years ago. Been wanting to open this for awhile. Opened for a tasting at the Sugar Land Flying Saucer. Pours amber with no head. Nose is of caramel and raisins. Taste is of caramel, raisins and dates. A bit oxidized. Mouthfeel is medium-thin, thinner than I expected and has some alcohol noticeable. It may not have held up as well as I would have liked. Still pretty good. Leighton (22821) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2011
Bottle at Caspar’s Running Toilet Tasting. Pours clear, brown-ruby-red with a moderate, off-white head. Pretty lovely nose, aged malts, caramel, faint leather. Medium sweet flavor, nice toffee, light booze, pleasant oxidation, caramel, dried fruits. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Fairly warming finish, more caramel and toffee, toasted brown sugar, light licorice, candy, leaves, dark dried fruits. Excellent stuff. Has aged beautifully. The best of the vintages had at this tasting. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 1, 2011
love me some aged beer. Bottle shared at Max and Jess’s place. Dark amber pour. Oxidized/ burnt caramel with raisins, figs and plums. Bitter finish and a bit woody. This has held up very well. Ober (2811) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - AUG 28, 2011
A hazy amber/red colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of alcohol with some malts. Old fruits but absolutely not out of date. There are raisins with caramel. The taste of old fruits, less oxidation. Some bitter with sweet. The aftertaste taste is bitter with some alcohol.
