55 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden and amber with a slowly collapsing off-white head. Light woody and wineous aroma. Flavour is wineous and overripe fruity with a smooth caramel malt base. Interesting shift from sweet to medium dry flavour. Slight bite before the finish. Very smooth and balanced. Utterly impressive, HUGE thanks to Ungstrup for these rare gems. [Sampled November 7, 2003] The aroma is sweet malty with notes of alcohol and caramel. The color is dark amber and it has a small fast disappearing head. The flavor is sweet and malty with strong notes of caramel. A fine beer but not the best Vintage Ale; '97 and '01 are better. joergen (28964) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 18, 2006

Bottle. Pours an amber reddish colour with an off-white head. Sweet earthy malt aroma with hints of dark fruits and caramel. Sweet malty flavor with some hints of bitterness and dark fruits, also hints of caramel. Has a smooth well balanced mouthfeel. Dry warming finish. A very nice one.

Bottled. Runy red colour, mediumsized brown head. Sweet caramel and plum in aroma. Flavour is alcohol, plum, malts and some yeast. Once it becomes a bit warmer the alcohol is more present (this I didn’t notice on the 2005 version). Palate is good, but the alcohol makes the beer a bit sticky when getting warmer. Overall the alcohol is sadly a bit disturbing in this 1999 version. Travlr (25787) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - FEB 5, 2012

Cloudy chocolate coloured beer with a short lived biscuit coloured head. Obviously an aged beer with lots of sweetish caramel and chocolate but it still has reasonable carbonation. A nice orangey, port and aniseed finish.
