Bottle at Caspar’s Running Toilet Tasting. Pours rich auburn with a foamy, off-white head. Strong leather nose, some dark fruit, slight tang. Quite a sweet flavor with palpable oxidation, robust leather, slight must, candied fruits, and toasted sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish with a bit more sting than even younger vintages, lingering leather, some tangy fruits, a slight ’staleness’ that isn’t altogether a bad thing. Has surprising kick given the age. Nowhere nearly as mellow as 2002-2006. Quite a departure from the other years. Rasmus40 (21141) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - APR 13, 2016
Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, honey, toffee and oxidized. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Way past it’s prime. 130416 fiulijn (20604) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 3, 2003
Bottle No. 04843Koelschtrinker (20591) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - FEB 12, 2013
Hazy amber color; creamy head. Beautiful malt aroma, fruity; Porto wine; sweet, fresh wood. I may feel more if all those bastards around me would stop smoking!
Powerful mouthfeel, malty, liquorice, caramel, light wallnuts.
Long finish, bearing both hop bitterness and bitter maltiness (and liquorice, and light litchie fruitness).
Wonderful. Would like to taste it in another couple of years.
Etwas oxidierter Antrunk, wenig herb, breite Malzigkeit. Geringe passende Süße, hellmalzig würzig, süffig. 10/11/12/12/12/12 Theydon_Bois (19718) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - SEP 23, 2012
Bottle at home (from the brewery shop July ’12) - 23/09/12. No. 54386.
Slightly obscured reddish amber with a thin off-white head that thins to the edges, forms a pond, but then retains fairly well.
Rich dark fruits dominate the nose, prunes, cherries, slightly earthy and musty and some nuttiness - but it’s a few years old so I can get this!
Taste absolutely top notch. Sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, prunes, dates, figs, dark sugars, a little biscuit and bread to balance.
Perfect on the palate - smooth, minimal soft carbonation, spot on !
Another great vintage from Fullers, still highly drinkable, although the nose has started to wain. Big relief that this one was in fine fettle after a recent ’99 had ’gone’ although no signs of damp on the label as was the case with that one.

Bottle. Copper/amber color, offwhite head. Earthy aroma, malty, some toffee notes. Malty nutty flavor, some alcohol, some dust. Woody and with a rather malty profile. harrisoni (18807) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 11, 2006
Botte at Kookfest 06. My favourite of the series. Hazy deep chestnut, lasting beige head. Hoppy but not as much as the 2001. Lovely creamy texture, quite harsh on end. Still intense and almost overpowering. Honeyish, bit of whisky. Great hop. saxo (18738) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - JUN 29, 2007
Bottle #04486. Nice head with ok duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are sugar, malt and alcohol. Oakes (17815) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 18, 2003
Sampled 2003: Hazy orange-amber; caramel and malt. Earthy, twiggy hops. Lemon rind dryness in the finish. A good age. TBone (17681) - Pori, FINLAND - DEC 29, 2007
Ruby red brown color, small beige head. Clearly "vintage aroma" - dry woody and oaky nose. This is quite Fullers ESB -like, oaky with hops and malts and some licorice. Palate is a bit liquerish in the finish. Hoppy and slightly alcoholic aftertaste. I am not sure if this has changed a lot in the ageing, it feels more like a beer, which stays good. Age is mostly evident in the aroma. Good beer.
