Bottled. Hazy brownish amber, small head. Caramelly nose. Sweet and full bodied. Caramel wrapped in resin, notes of white pepper and a beginning touch of cardboard. Mild resiny bitterness. manuchampions (1244) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 19, 2010
The jewel of a vertical tasting that included, 2010,09,08,07,06,05,02. Thanks Gerry. Poured a bright copper with a lasting off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma is dominated by caramelized malts, honey, English toffee, vanilla and tart apple. Taste has a wonderfully balanced hop/malt profile, subtle sweetness, sherry notes, some woodiness. Finish is beautifully lingering and satisfying. Without doubt the jewel of the vertical. Alphadelic (2249) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 23, 2010
Big and SUPER clear red ale with a perfect, creamy white head. The aroma is unbelievably rich with a huge similarity to a Belgian bun. That is really amazing tasty. Creamy and floury with a beautiful browned pastry flavour and an Earl Grey soaked raisin. Some cheap powdery chocolate and lovely vinilla there too. I think that is fricking tasty. This is a very special beer. pivnizub (10730) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - APR 26, 2010
Bottle: Hazy, chestnut-brown coloured, lots of floaties visible; lacy, but quickly collapsing beige head; sweet raisins, marzipan and leather in the nose, robust hops included; very solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied, oily MF; leather and sweet caramel and portwine in the complex sweet and hoppy finish. Extremely well balanced, well rounded moreish stuff........ MoritzF (10018) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAR 31, 2010
(bottle, 55cl) Hazy, chestnut-brown coloured hue with lots of floaties and a short diminishing beige foamy head. Sweet toast-malty, slightly vinous fruity aroma with notes of caramel, liquorce, tobacco, sweat and a bit brandy-like alcohol. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a very soft carbonation and a slightly viscid mouthfeel. Creamy toasty malty, date- and fig-fruity taste with caramel, liquorice, resin and a tinge of marzipan; almost endlessly lasting, slightly vinous, subtle fruity and toasty finish. Highly elaborated stuff. 24.III.10

Bottle shared by KnutAlbert. Low, mostly lasting white head. Body is unclear, reddish-brown colored. Aroma is quite vinous with a distinct scent of grainy caramel, almost like an american Barley Wine. Taste has a strong malt body, caramelly, soft and rounded. Floral and minty tones, and hint of vanilla, mild pepper, wood and Cherry. A gentle bitterness in the backbone. Warming alcohol and smooth in the mouth. Near full-bodied. Dry, rounded, faint fruity ending. Great beer. larsga (7608) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 17, 2010
Small offwhite head. Hazy amber body. Caramelly (very!) musty earthy aroma with old books notes. Dry-sweetish wooden caramelly taste with old books and linoleum notes. Mild rounded, smooth mouthfeel. Fullish body. Dry wooden old blanket and paper aftertaste with sugary sherry mint notes. Some sharpish hops in aftertaste. Absolutely outstanding! (0.5l bottle, shared by KnutAlbert.) Clear medium to dark red amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, vintage, oxidide malt, raisin, plum, wood notes, moderate alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is flat to soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. IMO it is to old - on the down ...

Dry raisiny and nutty aroma. Pleasant carbonation. Yeast mellows the taste we found - so do add some. Very dry malty body. Hops again dry and biting. Lovely raisins in the finish. Beautiful sipper.
