3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle that Peter Fowler, Shoulder of Mutton kindly shared at tasting at his pub 28.04.11 Pours reddy amber, looks good. Touch of tobacco on nose along with some dried citrus and a dab of spice. Tasty beer really full bodied, however possibbly a bit too much toffee for me, though there is some vanilla and a little nuttiness in there. Extremely likeable but not a patch on the 1999 that we also tried. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(bottle, 55cl) Hazy, chestnut-brown coloured hue with lots of floaties and a short diminishing beige foamy head. Sweet toast-malty, slightly vinous fruity aroma with notes of caramel, liquorce, tobacco, sweat and a bit brandy-like alcohol. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a very soft carbonation and a slightly viscid mouthfeel. Creamy toasty malty, date- and fig-fruity taste with caramel, liquorice, resin and a tinge of marzipan; almost endlessly lasting, slightly vinous, subtle fruity and toasty finish. Highly elaborated stuff. 24.III.10

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours orange brown with a modest beige head and a ffuity aroma. There is a hearty delicious malty flavor that keeps its age nicely. A smootly bitter toasty finish sticks to the palate.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle conditioned - White Horse - Parsons Green London SW6. A mid brown beer with a nice white head. The aroma is thick with juicy hops and creamy alcohol. The taste also has lots of warming alcohol , fruits, nail varnish, perfume and vanilla. The texture is like butterscotch. After a while it does become ’heady’ but it is more than acceptable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml bottle thanks to Kirk. Pours a cloudy copper color with a medium orange/white head. A big dusty nose of yeast and caramel. The flavor is robust with caramel, port, more dust, earthy, sweet oranges, lots of yeast. Really nice, has held up great . The oxidation fits in well.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
550 ml bottle @ the Grand Vintage Tasting, Tampere. Pours a mahogany amber colour with a small head. Aroma of chocolate fudge, some bread, orange marmalade and grass. Rich flavour of toasted malts, very strong licorice root notes, bread, salt, syrupy sweetness and some wooden notes. Full bodied. Brilliant stuff. The licorice root notes here are very original for the Vintage Ale series. 12 years old and no signs of aging.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled at the White Horse, Parsons Green. The colour was somewhat difficult to gauge as the pub was so crowded that we had to sit outside in the dark. The aroma didn’t augur well. Malt dominates, but it has a very distinct cereal character and sweetness, that I didn’t find very appealing. However, all was redeemed on the palate. There’s plenty of malty sweetness, but a good dollop of spicy hops counterbalance that nicely. Rich, complex, fruit cake flavours put in an appearance too. Long, dried fruit finish, with the hops lasting the distance. Definitely a beer of two halves. Overall, good, but not outstanding.
