Poured a hazy orange with a brown tint and small begie head. Full thick dark fruits, sweet malt, some woody character and alcohol. Full malty flavor with raisins and chocolate. Some aged notes. Semi-sweet start and a drying finish. Decent warmth. Grovlam (4257) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 29, 2008
Bottle. [Courtesy of Ungstrup, thanks buddy] Large creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Cloudy amber colour. Aroma of overripe fruit, toasted malt, lovely smooth grainy feel. Over the palate came mild bread, light vinous. A bit more complex in the aroma compared to the 2004. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and light alcoholic and thick texture. Moderated sweet and mild bitter flavour. Complex and fruity lingering finishes what was quit smooth and malty at the very end. Excellent. Nuffield (4245) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JAN 22, 2005
I didn’t see a bottle number in the usual place here...none for the Golden Jubilee commemorative bottles, apparently. Drinking this reminded me of how I celebrated the Golden Jubilee--with my wife and first daughter, listening to a military band march on Broad Street in Oxford, and then enjoying lemonade and a more traditional brass band play on the lawn at All Souls College--an exceptionally rare treat for anyone to be able to picnic on that beautiful patch of grass. But those memories were too much of a match for this beer, which brought be back to reality with some alcohol notes (though not as effervescent as the 1999 vintage), and hints of body odor, lipstick, and caramel. Orange luminescence and some off-white head. Slightly syrupy, gentle bitterness, and a good toasted quality. Thanks maeib for sending this to Texas! sunevdj (4143) - Copenhagen OE, DENMARK - JUN 25, 2011
Bottle at Ungstrup’s - Thanks. Pours a clear brown with a tiny off white head. Sweet with aromas of prunes and malts. Hints of port. Tiny toothpastish hints too. Some burnt malts aromas. Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Dry and sweet finisn. rauchbier (3949) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - JAN 3, 2003
January 2003- bumped it up a point after retasting. Aroma has lost some of its sweetness, becoming more like a Highland malt than a drambuie. A hint of cork is now apparent in the mouth and the finish has a little more depth with some spiciness counteracting the dry bitterness. 6 more bottles (and years) to go.
July 2002-Bottle label has a subtitle of Special Golden Jubilee Edition, so I am unsure of the availability of this particular vintage, Initial head is good but quickly dissipates, and the condition is relatively low. First aroma is very reminiscent of Drambuie, with a spicy floral honey note but raisins and roast malt soon mask this. Main flavour is of fruity malt with a faint hint of esters and pear drops. Finish is dry and short with a hint of alcohol.
