Bottle conditioned. Amber bronze, moderate white head with some lace and low fine condition. Low hop, malt and orange in the aroma but all quite muted. Quite dry and thin in the mouth with a hint of malt whisky and a suggestion of oakiness. Drab hop bitter finish with some trace alcohol notes. Very dry, thin and disappointing, not up to the usual standard but still drinkable nonetheless.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2005 A heavy and strong ale bursting with malt and fruit, alcohol feels a bit harsh this young, but I am sure this will only get better and smoother with time.A keeper for sure. RobBestwick (935) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 4, 2004
rich and fruity aroma, pours with a deep bronze/copper hue and an off white head, strong fruitcake and alcohol flavour, treacle like in texture, this is similar to "1845", obviously though it has not had time to mature yet. mrkimchee (1414) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 13, 2003
deep red-brown, off white head. aroma of toffee, burning hops, roasted sweet malt, nuts and mild citrus. very balanced and malty with a whif of alcohol. the english hop flavours of leaf and celery meld with the citrus int he finish. excellent. Golden-brown; aroma of brown sugar, bourbon, pecans. Notes of lemon, toffee, brown sugar, pears and alcohol. Stiffer than other years, to my tastebuds.
