Good example for the style. This had some age on it that probably caused the flavors to blend. Sweet malty aroma. Caramel brown color with little sustainable head. Flavor profile was of a standard English ale, just amped up a bit. I had this a year ago and it had more character. Malts are heavy followed by a candy-like mild sweetness. Also kind of bready. Alcohol was also very present in the finish. A year ago this was probably one of the best Fuller’s I’d tasted.
Part of a vertical tasting of vintage years 2008 through 2015, drank in January 2017. 2008 (bottle #127432) was rounded out to a solid caramel, with that lovely oxidation that makes vintage beers what they are. 2009 (#105287) suggested some tobacco and a luscious nose. 2010 (#094046) help up better than the 2011 (#108000), with better caramel flavors and some fizz; the later year was just flat and old tasting. 2012 (#125741) was clearly brighter in the nose, though losing some of its body, while the 2013 (#109909) was showing some signs of oxidation. 2014 (#141264) was equally bright with 2015 (#134049), and both were worthy bottles that I could have enjoyed had I just been sitting with the whole bottles. Thanks for my friends for joining me as I shared these bottles. Metalchopz (3529) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 26, 2017
Been cellaring for a while, No. 71701. Pours a hazy amber colour with a beige creamy head, good retention and some creamy lace. Dark fruit aromas with caramel malts and some nutty notes. The taste has the figs, raisins, nuts with the toffee and the hops appear in the finish. Mild grassiness giving a little bitterness. What lingers is quite nice. john44 (3392) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 3, 2017
Bottle. Drank Dec 2012 - Reddish Amber in colour; paler than recent earlier Vintage Ales. Very malty; caramel & toffee, toasted malts, hint of chocolate. Fruity; bitter oranges, marmalade, dark fruits. Some spiciness. Earthy hops result in some bitterness. Sweet, smooth and mellow overall. Alcohol warming and very evident. Very malty fruity throughout leading to a long bitter hoppy and very dry finish. Very tasty. Nice beer! (2012-12-26) DerGantzel (445) - Aarhus, DENMARK - JUN 25, 2016
Fresh sweet malty aroma. This beer has only gained in complexity over the last eight years. Medium-full body, creamy texture. kappldav123 (6133) - GERMANY - APR 29, 2016
Huge thanks to quack-duck for that bottle! Looks really, really good. Beer in the glass brownish, small head. Malty-old aroma. Starts intense malty-wheaty, strong, some alcoholic notes, not too intense. Hints of caramel and some cookies. Light sourish-bitter background. Finish warming, malty, alcoholic, fruity hints. Really nice!

So smooth and rich. A beer rater’s life is indeed good. Uunnværlig luksus. Fullers ruler big time. Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 01.01.15. Clear darl orange amber. Persistent, pale brown head and lacing. Aroma of dried fruits and Sancerre. Similar taste, with succade, sherry, white port and caramelized nuts. Long aftertaste. Superb and complex. suurjuust (3767) - ESTONIA - DEC 12, 2015

Impressive in 2015 with raisins and lots of dried fruit. Taste is wine like and sweet with good freshness after this time. Impressive that it can develop to this extent over the years.
