Draft Sample @ Brewvival 2014. Deep brownish amber with a small head. Bourbon soaked wood dominates the nose. A bit of ink cartridge and roasted malt. Sort of strange apple flavor. Nearly a year as a cellared bomber, shared and poured to snifters with a black/brown hue, a persistent layer of brownish tan head foam, and streaks of lacing. The nose was some roastiness, but mainly a distinct, sour oak scent, which was mellowed by a touch of barrel induced vanilla, and further smoothed by some silky effervescence in the flavor. Medium bodied, hidden alcohol, and maybe some oxidation, but tasty in it’s own unusual way. More of a sour, Belgian Dark Strong Ale.

Tasting with jrob21. Infected, but just slightly so. Caught a whiff of the infection as soon as the bottle popped. Scent is funky with hints of the the smoky chocolate. Flavor is sour, sweet, and roasty. Beer wasn’t bad, just not what I had hoped for. Would have been better off if infection had really taken hold. Uh oh looks like this might be infected. Here it goes either way. A little tinge of sour in the aroma and the finish is a touch funky as well. Kentucky Fried Charleston Trip Beer #91. Draft at Brewvival. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Decent head retention. Bomber bottle from Peabody’s Wine and Beer, Boone, NC. Great stout and bourbon scents. Pours almost black with very nice tan foam that stays. Great bourbon barrel taste but not sweet which is nice and a good palate finish of bourbon stout. I really enjoy this beer and hope that can have it again.
