COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with North Carolina wheat and locally-farmed basil, our most popular summer beer is an ever-changing feast for the senses. Summer Basil evolves over its five-month season, as local basil matures and fermentation temperatures rise. The saison yeast loves our hot summers, responding with a full-on punch of peppery, vibrant flavors. It’s okay that this plow-to-pint beer doesn’t always taste the same. It’s a beautiful thing.
Availability: Summer, 22oz bombers at our tavern and select markets, including the Durham Farmer’s Market. 5% ABV.

Very interesting brew. Poured with a moderate head and a slightly cloudy golden color with just a tinge of green. Decent notes of basil in smell and taste. You almost feel healthy drinking this one...

Pours super super cloudy with a small head. Looks homebrewish. Nose is better with some lemongrass, basil, citrus, earth. Flavor is similar but when combined tastes a little messy and muddled. Missing a crispness on the end that I love in a well made farmhouse/ saison. Not a bad effort, but it can and hopefully will be much better.

On tap at the brewpub. Cloudy golden pour with frothy carb and decent retention. Very pungent basil nose, which - despite the commercial description - is a bit head-clubbing. Pretty decent farmhouse ale as the base beer, nice and dry with a bit of spice to it. The basil complements it pretty well but is too present. As is, good stuff but I’ll look forward to trying it again in the hopes that it’s even more balanced.

Pint can. From wine warehouse. Pours slightly hazy pale gold with white head. It's slightly herbal and lemon aroma. Flavor is lemongrass, definite basil, slight yeast. Finish is basil all over the place. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

at City Beverage Durham. ok aroma, tart. Clove, basil, lemon. Cloudy yellow gold color, Ok head. Little to no lace. Sweet and sour flavor. Lite body, creamy smooth body, bitter dry finish, left me with a little soapy streak. Kind of grew on me as I sipped, basil was stronger than I remember at debut event. Aroma was favorite part, buy a small margin.

Very brilliant, very light straw colored pour. Not much head, but what is there is eggshell white. No lacing. Very nice basil note with some lemon notes. Taste is creamy bitter lemon. Dry.

Old rating. Straw, grassy saison body with a giant dose of basil. Light and drinkable but not very complex.

durhambeer (2500) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - AUG 21, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Okay, wow, this is a bright light yellow beer that’s not letting any light through. Looks a bit intimidatingly thick. Nose show lemon, basil, yeast, and wheat. Almost like a wit meets a saison. Nice but nothing special. The basil is thankfully relatively mild. Tastes like it smells for the most part, but with a bit more of the wheatiness. Not bad at all.

Pours light cloudy straw yellow. Capped with a frothy white head. Aroma of gym shorts and basil with wheat and some raw eggs. Nice light mouthfeel with a dry bu tart finish. Lemony throughout, the basil rides on top of the witbier base.
