COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been said whiskey is what beer wants to be when it grows up. The Libertine just wanted to grow up to be with a whiskey. Luckily, it found a perfect hometown match: 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey. We add Libertine to 2 Gingers barrels just after the whiskey leaves. Over the next few months, honey and caramel flavor from the whiskey layer upon rich vanilla and oak notes to compliment The Libertine’s spicy, rye-driven malt profile. Like all great pairings, once you know them together, it’s hard to imagine them apart.

Michigan road trip notes with Tim to Minnesota. The appearance was a subtle strained dark red sort of look with a sheet of white foamy head. Not much lace. The aroma had some sweet and spicy grains, light floral, some wood and a little bit of earth. Touch of sweet wood and some dried leaves. The flavor had a dry sort of woody sweetness with some rounded vanilla edges to it and some light leather. Light spicy notes and a touch of cereal. Sweet sort of honey aftertaste. Leather biting sort of finish with a little bit of cereal. The palate was about medium bodied with a good sipping sort of quality to it. ABV felt good. Overall, does the trick and if I could get this again, pretty sure I’d want it. Apologies for the late upload.

Tap at brewery. Red brown with a medium off-white head. Whiskey, vanilla, caramel and drift wood. Tastes fairly one dimensional with a malty caramel flavor that quickly fades. Body is heavier with a light sticky feel.

Sample at APN. malty with whiskey on the tongue, not much wood on this one at all. Decent, but nothing great.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2013 Hazy reddish pour on draft at all pints north. Subtle whiskey nose, slightly malty. Nice, not overwhelming. Mild whiskey. (Had it again at All Pints North and liked it slightly less - 3.4 down to 3.2).

On tap at Edina Grill. Sold as aged in 2 Gingers Whiskey Barrel. The oak and whiskey elements add slightly to the base Libertine - good result.

Had this on tap a long time ago and had simply forgotten to rate it.... but it was very tasty and full of whiskey goodness!

Pour on tap at Winterfest 2012, pour is dark brownish red with thin off white almost tan head. Aroma has notes of whiskey, hints of spicy rye, buttery cracker and some slight caramel and toffee notes, maybe a hint of earth. Taste is a bit strong on the whiskey, but has nice caramel and toffee underlying, earth and rye notes slightly spice it, finishing fairly bitter.

Minnesota Winterfest 2012. Red color with no head. Aroma of straight Jameson. Flavor is much the same. The oakiness of the barrel comes through.
