COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A libertine is someone living free of society’s restraints. Similarly, The Libertine doesn’t constrain itself with preconceived notions of what a beer style should be. Loaded with malts that include the UK’s premium Maris Otter and Caramel 60, and topped off with Rye to impart a distinct reddish hue, the Libertine is a malt-dominated red ale like none you’ve ever had before. It boasts a rich, indulgent body without being overly sweet. Conventional classifications fail The Libertine, but who really wants to play by the rules anyway?

Very very thick and murky pour with two fingers of dense sandstone tan head. Nose is super malt forward with vinous and caramel big time. Super malty and feeling under attenuated. Full bodied with dark fruit and fruit skins and a weird oxidation.

Sampled on tap at Fulton. Pours an amber color with white head. Caramel, syrupy, malty flavors. Kinda flat and cardboardy.

Bacterial (3054) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - NOV 5, 2012
On tap at Muffuleta's - boy is this nice. Dark ruby pour with a light white head. Malty nose, a heavy red ale that coats your mouth with a nice balance of malt and hops. Really nice! If this was $6 in the stores I would be buying a ton of it!!

3.2
UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - FEB 1, 2013
750ml bottle from khoffman43. Pours ruby red with minimal head. Nose is muted with toffee and caramel. Taste starts with bits of citrus, mid stream toffee enters stage left and continues to the quick finish. Body is a bit thin.

2.4
Atom (2576) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 22, 2012
750mL bottle pours a clear ruby/brown with a small khaki head. Aroma of caramel malts, rye, with fruits and a slight sour aspect. Taste of sweet caramel malts, rye, grains, dark fruits, with a bitter alcohol finish. It’s almost drinkable, yet nothing special, until the end. Gross.

3.7
ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - MAY 15, 2012
Draft at Fulton Taphouse near Target Field in Minneapolis. Sweetness in the nose. Softly carbonated. Higher alcohol prevalent. Caramel notes with a hint of molasses. A little harshness/pepper in the finish. Nice beer, probably their best to date.

3.4
portableparty (2384) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - NOV 19, 2013
750 ml bottle. Pours a old copper red color with a thin tight beige film that fades to a tiny ring. Aroma is malty sweet caramel slight toffee and red licorice. Taste has loads of malt candied sugar toffee and caramel apple with a little spice hop and subtle bitter finish. Palate is medium to full slightly chewy and sticky with a dry finish. I like, but not mind blowing.

3.5
TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Bottle. Pours a dark red with. Aroma is a malt and grain blend. Flavor is nice with the booze shining through. Much better than I expected.
