COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fulton War and Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout conditioned with whole bean Peace Coffee in the fermentation tank. It’s an epic work of beer, but unlike the novel, this beer is brief and fleeting, appearing just once a year in February. Historic quantities of chocolate malt and roast barley clash over a field of dark roast Peace Coffee beans. Like Tolstoy’s masterpiece, it may take some time to finish and require some thought along the way. But by the end, we think you’ll find yourself better for the effort.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big nutty dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, herbal, pepper, and pine; with lighter notes of vanilla, smoke, charcoal, raisin, cherry, fig, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, herbal, pepper, and pine; with lighter notes of vanilla, smoke, charcoal, raisin, cherry, fig, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness. Moderate roast/char and herbal/piney/peppery hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toasted dark bread, vanilla, smoke, charcoal, dark fruit, herbal, pepper, pine, and roast/toast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 9.5%. Overall this is an awesome Russian imperial coffee stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the ABV; despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Very rich with balanced nutty/fruity coffee and black/roasted malt complexity; with a nice earthy/piney hop presence. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Aroma is coffee, dark malts and spices. The flavor is coffee, dark malts, fruit/mild dark fruit and a mix of acidity and mild spiciness in the finish.

A nice coffee sipper. Typical flavors of coffee, roast, tobacco, dark chocolate, fig, raisin. Up my alley as far as impy stouts go. A favorite.

12 oz. bottle from poisoneddwarf - thanks again! Pours an opaque coffee brown with a small tan head that settles into an uneven ring and thin film, leaving some ropes and spots of lace in the glass. The coffee here is super earthy, almost vegetal and rubbery in the nose, with dark chocolate, roasted malts, earth, tobacco, and slight ash. Medium-plus bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, earthy, bitter mouthfeel. It’s only a few months old but I think it needs to be super fresh to be at its best.

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Th beer is a near black with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has huge roasted coffee bean and green pepper notes. Spicy and roasty dark chocolate. The chocolate aspects are a bit sweet, but the roasty coffee comes through in the finish. Thicker, almost creamy mouthfeel with a moderate carbonation.

Good Imperial Stout, but there’s not much coffee present. Aroma is dark malt and a little bit of black patent. Flavor is like nose. It’s fairly balanced between bitter and sweet and very easy drinking although the Finish is on the better side.
