Fulton War and Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout conditioned with whole bean Peace Coffee in the fermentation tank. Its an epic work of beer, but unlike the novel, this beer is brief and fleeting, appearing just once a year in February. Historic quantities of chocolate malt and roast barley clash over a field of dark roast Peace Coffee beans. Like Tolstoys masterpiece, it may take some time to finish and require some thought along the way. But by the end, we think youll find yourself better for the effort.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2017 12floz bottle without a freshness date purchased as a single about four months ago (paid $3.39, Madison WI area). Poured into a pint glass on 01.14.2017. Opaque, near black, and little head for the appearance typical for the style. Not much going on in the nose, but this may be due to age or slightly stuffed nasal passages. Bold coffee notes seem to help cover the alcohol content. A pretty one-dimensional beer as its defined by straight forward dark roasted characteristics. Its a fair robust stout, but doesnt stand out style wise. I am open to trying other Fulton beers though, since I had one other beer by them that was pretty good. This particular beer isnt technically flawed, just one that doesnt meet my personal preference when compared to other coffee/imperial stouts.

Trade extra 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a medium creamy off white head. Aromas burst out with chocolate, coffee, soy sauce. Flavor follows the nose perfectly. Coffee is very well done and very pronounced in this. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, smooth finish.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2016 Tap at brewery with commonmac. Black with tan head. Malty coffee nose with some chocolate . Sweet , sugary, good creamy coffee. Much less bitterness than others in style . Some chocolate and booze, but subtle and in balance. Finish is balanced and sweet. Booze comes out as it warms. Great beer.

Tap pour at the brewery for a good cause. Deep cola brown with tan head. Aroma is a heavy dose of coffee with toasted nuttiness and maybe a hint of chocolate. Taste is like a strong straightforward coffee with roasted espresso beans, some burnt sugars, chocolate, and a potent boozy finish. Full mouthfeel. Bitter dark chocolate lingers in the aftertaste but the coffee dissipates slightly. Symbolic of its name, it starts off as a bitter and aggressive war before ending in a sweet, pleasant symphony of peace.

Very roasty and malty with strong coffee and chocolate aroma. Dark pour but no head, and hardly any lacing. Pleasant palate and boozy finish. Very good but russian imperial stout competition is stiff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle courtesy of Hoff! Pours out a dark brown/almost black color with a small creamy tan head of foam. Aroma of dark chocolate, burnt espresso, black malts, burnt sugar, and hints of vanilla. Taste of black charred malts, burnt day old coffee, sweet caramel, burnt sugar, earth, hints of licorice, and vanilla extract in the finish. At first was too charred and burnt in the flavor, but digging it the more I drink it and it warms up.
