Winter Beer Festival, 2010. Black beer with a strong light brown head. The aroma is smoked, gently roasted and slightly rich. The flavour is watery, roasted and gently bitter. Overall an average roasted and bitter beer.
Cask. Dark brown coloured. Spicy, plumy, peppery, gingery nose appear complex at first, but outside the spices and mediocre fruit, there really is not much going on here. Very sweet palate with cakey caramel notes. Rather lifeless body make the sweetness even more clashing. Some interesting features, but the ensemble fails to renew the desire for a drink. fonefan (49293) - VestJylland, DENMARK - SEP 7, 2007
Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2007, London. Dark black color with a average, fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty roasted, chocolate, burnt, fruit, berry. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is smooth, carbonation is flat. oh6gdx (26488) - Vasa, FINLAND - AUG 24, 2007

Dark amber colour, small creamy beige head. Aroma is leather, some malts and hops. Flavour is the same along with toffee and paper. Some slight spicyness also.
Very dark brown with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with some spice including vanilla, and some roast notes. Dry and roast flavour with a hint of spice.

Cask conditioned - handpump - GBBF2007. A dark brown coloured beer with a pleasant tan ring of head. The aroma is smoky and has plenty of dark fruits. The taste is nice and fruity. OIly and fishy. A tasty well brewed beer. jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - AUG 12, 2007

Spices, dried fruits and licorice aroma. Black color, beige fine head, good lace. Sweet, spicy, dried dark fruits, licorice and vanilla. Nice complexity, good balance.
A Mes rate:
Gravicask at GBBF. Dark chestnut colour with a thin tan film. Sweet and spicy aroma. Chocolate and spicy flavour with a bit of liquorice. Very Xmas like. A hoppy note in the background all the way through adds some interest. Pretty good stuff. chriso (7533) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2007
Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. A difficult beer to categorise. Very dark colour with no head and not much condition. Fairly weighty mouthfeel, with plenty of strength. Slightly sour berry fruits, dark malt and sticky caramel. Also a little spicy, fruit cake element. Sweetish but there’s just a hint of hoppy bite to even things out. An interesting beer which I found quite appealing.

Cask, Babington Dark Ales Festival. Straight black bodied beer with a slight head. Strong old fruit aroma. Sweetness and warm alcohol notes develop through the roast notes. A little harsh but interesting.
