Belgian-Style Ale
Inspired by the sessionable German Berliner Weisse, we followed tradition and allowed the wort to mature overnight with lactobacillus. The next day it was boiled and transferred to the fermentor where we added a Belgian wheat yeast strain famous for fruity flavors and a dry finish. The result is a highly carbonated and refreshingly tart summer beer with a citrusy pineapple aroma. These aromas carry through in to the flavor leading to a dry but tart finish. This unfiltered ale is best consumed fresh- it will not continue to sour with age and is not recommended for cellaring.

Pour on tap at the brewery, hazy yellow pour with thin white head, aroma brought slight corn, grass, hints of vanilla in there with a touch of lemon, hints of corn note as well, its decent but its fairly mild. Taste is a mix of slight lemon but mostly bready, doughy notes, into some slight vanilla, touch of yeasty, finishing fairly dry.

Had on tap at The Mayor Of Old Town. Pours like a wheat beer, cloudy, straw. The aroma is spicy, clove, fruity banana. There is very little tartness. This is a terrible Berliner Weisse. Not a bad beer, but not the style it says it is.

Hazy straw color, two fingers of snowy whhite head, tight small bubbles. Nose has some wheat, malt, spicy yeast, hint (almost imperceptable) of tart. Tastes like a well done wit bier. Wheat and malt working well, a bit a citrus zest, not getting the lacto as much as I would like. Well carbonated and dry as a bone, easy to drink. Overall, I went into this beer expecting more Berliner and less wit, unfortunately the lacto didnt come through and left me wanting something with a bit more bite. It is a refreshing beer that I will buy more of, just not when I want a Berliner Weiss.

750 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy yellow gold with a big meringue like white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is wheaty malts with some lemon peel and some earthy yeast and a little soapiness.

The flavor is sweet fruity wheat malts with a slight tart twang at the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall, a nice soft fruity wheat with some tart sourness. A nice lighter beer, but a bit pricey to buy much of.

Tap @ The Mayor of Old Town. Pours a hazy yellow appearance with a white head. Tangy lemon, vanilla, a bit funky, a bit juicy, wheat aroma. Flavor is lightly tart, a bit herbal, lemon, citrusy, and fairly dry. Not one of my favorites from these guys but not bad.

Falling Rock Taphouse, Denver tap: Pours light yellow with a white head. Aroma is slightly funked up, wheat, and lactoness. Not sour in the taste, but a tad lactic. Not really grassy like a saison. Yeasty and a bit funky. Light and easy to drink. Not really my favourite, but a good beer with a uniqueness factor.
