COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Specter is a golden Belgian ale aged in French Cognac oak barrel. Sweetness from the Pilsener malt complements the apricot notes in the aroma. This continues into the flavor where oak tannins balance the sweetness leaving a smooth and delicate finish with slight warmness.

Phenolic and very strong yeast notes like many of their beers, you wouldn’t guess any type of barrel aging except some oak.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house. Thanks! Milky yellow, cloudy appearance with a white head that dissipates pretty quickly. White grape, peach, apricot, yeasty, citrusy, bready aroma with a slight booziness. Light oak, white grape, apple, pear, yeasty, grainy pils flavor with a slightly dry, straw finish. Kind of interesting but somewhat boozy.

750mL thanks to beerandblues2. Pours hazy light golden. Weak, white head. Sticky, stale grain nose, sugar cube, mild vegetal. Taste is sweeter but nice- some dried pineapple, dried apricot, dissolved sugar cube. Palate dense. Nice overall.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, slightly hazy orange pour with fluffy lasting white head. Aroma brought notes of peach, pear, apricot, some slight pils malt with cracker, biscuit notes, some esters, oak notes come through, slight hint of sweet cognac with a slight boozy note, sweet slight note as well with a hint of spice. Taste is a mix of lots of oak, hints of a slight spirit barrel with some spice, yeast and white fruit notes, touch of white grape and spicy slightly hot notes, finishing fairly sweet but slightly boozy. Tasty, but I think a bit of age would do it well to settle out and meld some of the flavors.

2 oz bottle acquired via trade long ago. Opened at Cellar Kill Night. Pours a yellow gold hue, touches of decent carbonation dance in the body. Subtle haze, some dulled golden glow. Frothy whitish head dies to a small ring, laces small. Reserved small stick around. Aromas are firmer oak, gentle spirit, grape and fruity esters. Bready, gentle to decent oak. Some apricot, bread, gentle honeycrisp fruit. Gentle yeast, firmer bread and fruit. Initial is a quick hit of oak, some spirit, fuzzy, some tannic oak and Cognac spirit. Bread and grainy malts, dough with more fruit into the middle, some pear and apple, a bit of honey. Gentle yeastiness, bigger hit of oak and spirit as we move on. Some bread, gentle dryness, decent yet tapering spice and barrel, that Cognac barrel isn’t overwhelming but it is certainly there. Touches of sweetness, fruit, apple and pear, bit of honey and dough. Odd, a so-so strong golden belgian with a distinct Cognac hit. It’s ok, a point or two for the barrel complexity. Without it, I’d imagine it’d be pretty mediocre. Touches of grape, oak and gentle fruit, mellow yeastiness on the nose is nice.
