UPDATED: FEB 15, 2012 Draft… This beer rocks!… Pours “new moon” black with a small, creamy, beige head. The bouquet delivers gargantuan sums of Cuban-roast coffee with a mild smoked bacon component and only a whisper of maple syrup. Full-bodied and ridiculously thick and chewy with modest carbonation. The flavor presents big-time mocha, heavy espresso and light smoke. Sweet, but not silly sweet. Finishes like a double café con leche. I’m disappointed that there was only faint bourbon in the aroma and flavor, hardly any bacon and just a hint of maple syrup. The barrel did this beer no favors. Still, it’s WIDE AWAKE, so the base beer and coffee component are pretty damned amazing. World class effort! darkguardian (733) - Florida, USA - SEP 30, 2011
Draft at the Buddha. Awesome beer. Not much in the way of bourbon aside from maybe some light tannic woodiness. Needs more time on the bourbon. Great base beer. Same great score. 50belair (3701) - Florida, USA - SEP 26, 2011
On tap at the Buddha for their one year anniversary party. Just another outstanding freakin’ beer from the mad geniuses at the Buddha. Dark brown pour with a nice tan head. The nose is still dominated by the base beer with all kinds of coffee and bacon notes. The taste is sublime with big black coffee, maple syrup, roasted malts, vanilla, caramel, and mellow bourbon flavors. Simply outstanding...... dimenhetfield (2554) - , Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2011
On draft for Funky Buddha’s 1 year anniversary party. Waited around for a few hours to taste this bad boy and it was well worth. All the qualities that I expected were there. Outstanding flavor and aroma. However the bourbon didn’t really shine through all that much but that didn’t take away from this beer in the slightest. There’s just so much flavor that it’s hard to not like this beer.
