Draft - Sweet and pickled ginger. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Pickled ginger light heat and a clean finish. Ginger is really showcased well.

On tap at the brewery, pours a hazy golden rusty orange pour with no head. Nose is strong ginger, with subtle citrus, like a smell emanating from a small take out restaurant in Chinatown, NYC. Taste is citrus with strong ginger and notes of clove. Finishes on the same tasting notes and is moderately long. If you are not a fan of ginger stay away. Nice. On draft at the Buddha. Somewhat cloudy with a hazy yellowish color. Good carbonation with a nice fluffy head. On tap at Funky Buddha. I’ve been awaiting this beer release for some time. It seems that I somehow I always just miss it. The base beer is the Floridan so that would explain a lot of the banana aroma I got from the first whiff. It has a nice lemon/ginger zest to it as well. The carbonation was a little off IMO and it almost reminded me of a flat Sprite. It’s still a good beer, don’t get me wrong.

On draft at the Buddha, poured a hazy/cloudy yellow with a great ginger aroma. I thought by the smell the ginger would be overpowering, however it blended well with the wheat beer base. A nice beer that would go well wih Japanese food, the after taste reminded me of the ginger sauce you get at a Japanese steak house.
Draft at brewer. Hazy gold with a thin white head. Scent is spicy. Taste is a sharp citrus and spice.

Mini Growler thanks to my Uncle! Shared with Yanick. Pours cloudy yellow. White head. Nose and taste of an Asian stir fry! Lots of ginger, wasabi, lemongrass, wheat and spices. Smooth. On-tap at the Hunaphu release. This just sounded terrible and I was quite dubious, however, after Sean’s rec I’m glad I gave this a try.. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a decent white head, looks fine... The aroma is light and sweet, perfect for a warm sunny day. Lots of lemongrass on the front with some citrus, a hint of ginger on the finish. Glad the ginger was muted or this could have been trouble... The taste is wheat and lemongrass on the front. The ginger only presents on the finish, which is perfectly executed. It adds excitement to the finish, and also if it was present throughout it would be too strong and overpowering. Tap at Hunahpu 2011. The pour is a cloudy, dirty deep yellow with no head formation. Aroma is heavy ginger root, lemon, bay leaves. Taste is heavy medicinal, lots of sugary sweetness with sharp ginger spice. Creates an instant headache. Really a nice idea but not executed very well. I’m a big fan of ginger, but I’m not sure how this is different from just ginger tea with lots of sugar added. Probably would be better to first make a good sour mash wheat beer with a little acidity and then add in freshly cut ginger in the mash and again in secondary. On tap at Hunahpu 2011, pours with little head, sweet ginger aroma, sweet with a tang bite to it. This is quite refreshing on a warm spring day. Very nice.
