UPDATED: MAR 14, 2011 Tap at the Funky Buddha grand opening. This one was a "secret" draft. Not on the list but they had a handle for it nonetheless and were giving only samples of it out. The reason being the appearance. So expect this score to go up down the road once they get that fixed. Nose is absolutely insane ginger and lemon with notes of vanilla and honey. This is one you can just smell all night. The flavor really matches it, in a way that is almost tea like. You also get some typical hefe esters as well as that vanilla. I don’t even know that they used vanilla in this one but I got it anyways. Appearance is a kinda grayish yellow that very hazy, apparently caused by the juiced ginger. With some clarifying agents and cold crashing they should be able to fix most of that. My favorite beer of the night at their grand opening.
Rerate-Hunahpus Day, new hefe yeast used. This has given the beer overall more body than the previous version. Balance of ginger and lemongrass is good. Bumped rating by .1 MikeMoriendi (72) - Boynton Beach, USA - DEC 28, 2010
I poured it from the Funky Buddha 32 oz growler into my pilsner glass. It arrived at the bottom a hazy golden color. It has some orange type hues to it as well. The head was thin, bubbly and white. Unfortunately it was gone rather quickly.
The smell is unlike any beer I’ve ever had but very similar to a real craft made ginger ale soda. You get tons of ginger in the nose and hints of lemongrass. Seems pretty obvious to get those as they are exactly what are used to make the beer.
The taste is more of the same from the nose. But I also get a little honey and orange in there. Some hefe like yeast characteristics rounds this out. It is also quite light in body. The carbonation seemed a hint off from the last time I had it but not enough to be a big difference. Slimbrundage (80) - USA - OCT 26, 2010
Transparent orangey brown, looks like ginger ale. Once again ginger ale on the nose big time with a little vannila and lemon. Light bodied with a light creamy texture. I get a lot of lemon and orange zest, plenty of ginger flavor with a bit of a bite on the finish. Lingering ginger aftertaste. Very unique beer. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 9, 2011
On draft at the FBG Fest 2011. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is ginger, lemongrass, citrus rind, and a bit of malt. Flavor is everything that is promised- a lot of lemongrass and even more ginger. A different, yet very easy-drinking beer. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
On-tap at the Hunaphu release. This just sounded terrible and I was quite dubious, however, after Sean’s rec I’m glad I gave this a try.. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a decent white head, looks fine... The aroma is light and sweet, perfect for a warm sunny day. Lots of lemongrass on the front with some citrus, a hint of ginger on the finish. Glad the ginger was muted or this could have been trouble... The taste is wheat and lemongrass on the front. The ginger only presents on the finish, which is perfectly executed. It adds excitement to the finish, and also if it was present throughout it would be too strong and overpowering. This is a perfect beer to have with chinese food, move over Kirin.

On tap at the brewery, pours a hazy golden rusty orange pour with no head. Nose is strong ginger, with subtle citrus, like a smell emanating from a small take out restaurant in Chinatown, NYC. Taste is citrus with strong ginger and notes of clove. Finishes on the same tasting notes and is moderately long. If you are not a fan of ginger stay away. Nice. Cloudy yellow. aroma hits with tons of lemongras, ginger and light caramel. Flavor is big on the lemongrass, maybe a hint too much...a bit soapy in flavor. I like the idea and this is certainly a refreshing beer. hopscotch (11175) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 6, 2010
Draft... As Chris mentioned, this one was a "secret" draft provided me by hankchinaski. Not on the draft list but I was lucky enough to get a sample. Hazy, light yellow ale with a minimal white head. The aroma is bursting-at-the-seams with ginger, lemongrass and pale grains. I’ve never really picked up on lemongrass in a beer as much as in this one. Can’t miss it as it slaps you upside the head. Light to medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor runs parallel to the nose. Mild, typical hefe esters and phenols as well, but the lemograss and ginger are the stars of this herbal show. Finishes crisp, spicy and herbal. mlunger12 (645) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2011
On tap at Hunahpu 2011, pours with little head, sweet ginger aroma, sweet with a tang bite to it. This is quite refreshing on a warm spring day. Very nice. burg326 (5569) - Florida, USA - AUG 25, 2012
On draft at the Buddha, pouurs a clear light golden yellow color, aromas of wheat, ginger, and lemon. Flavors follow suit, light refreshing and nice for a hot night out. Lemongrass is not overpowering nor is the ginger. A nice beer overall.

On draft at the Buddha, poured a hazy/cloudy yellow with a great ginger aroma. I thought by the smell the ginger would be overpowering, however it blended well with the wheat beer base. A nice beer that would go well wih Japanese food, the after taste reminded me of the ginger sauce you get at a Japanese steak house.
